Ways to Buy Organic and Locally in Chester County

By
Real Estate Agent with Prudential Fox & Roach

A good friend of mine passed this list on to me some time ago and I thought it would be a nice resource to pass along.  Even though it is winter we can still buy local foods at the farmer's market in Wayne (see below).

Maysies Farm:
http://www.maysiesfarm.org/
This is a farm that you can buy a share of (basically join) and then weekly go and pick up your veggies. You can also get organic eggs, poultry, beef, pork and raw milk from the farm. If you don't want to join here - support them at the Eagleview Market (see below for info)

Farmer's Market in Wayne, PA
http://lancastercountyfarmersmarket.com/
This wonderful market is open every Saturday morning thru the winter when Maysie's Farm is closed. If you haven't been there, go - it's awesome and it supports many farmers in Lancaster. The meat products are so fresh and it's a great place to order your turkey for Thanksgiving and your roasts, etc. for the Holidays. If you do that, call ahead. They have everything from lunch meats, cheeses, pork, poultry, beef, seafood, bakeries, produce, flowers, plants, pasta, nuts, coffee, and even soft pretzels. It get's pretty busy so I think that it's best to go super early.

Milky Way Farm/ The Creamery at Chester Springs:
http://www.milkywayfarm.com/
This is a wonderful place to buy homemade ice cream which is made from the cows on the farm. And this farm has wonderful seasonal events - esp. in the Fall. But lately, it's been a great place to buy their produce as well!!! On the porch you can purchase items such as corn, a bag of tomatoes for $2, a whole watermelon for only $3, cantaloupe, etc. I was surprised how reasonable the prices were. And it doesn't get any fresher than that! So check it out!! You pay for the items where you get your ice cream inside.

Eagleview Farmers Market

This great market is open in the parking lot of Eagleview Town Center on Wednesdays between 2-6 pm until Thanksgiving. It's the parking lot above Brickside Grille and below the Y. They have so many wonderful vendors and it's never very crowded so it's easy for you to shop. I should have mentioned this earlier as Maysie's Farm had a stand here too - so it's a way for you to buy local and buy organic w/o actually joining the farm. And they have many other vendors too:

I'd love to see this market do well as we're so lucky to have a local one so check it out!

Swiss Farms
Swiss Farms in Lionville supports local farms
And I've noticed that Wegman's does a great job of letting you know which produce products are from the area too.

Kimberton Whole Foods

I love this store and feel lucky to have it so close to us. It's in the newer Mill Town Market behind the McDs in Downingtown. They have wonderful beauty and cleaning products, children's toys and food. What I love is that you can buy local organic meat and eggs - and i mean local - like eggs from Glenmoore. And I absolutely love the Weleda skin products for babies. http://shop.weleda.com/SearchByCategory.aspx?CategoryCode=MotherAndBaby

Farm Stand at 401 and 100:
It is north of the Sunoco station on your left. It has some great local produce, flowers and baked goods. and what's nice is that I can buy Boar's Head lunch meat from Ludwig's Market right next door.
