What would you like to see on Facebook?

Facebook logoI was working on my Facebook profile last night and ran into a minor glitch with one of the applications. After looking through the FAQ and help file and not finding the answer, I submitted a help request. To my surprise, the developer of the application responded within an hour and fixed the issue.

We exchanged a few emails about social networking and real estate and he said:

"I was curious if you had any thoughts on some type of Facebook application that would help real estate agents. I've been thinking of different things such as a way to post listings on profiles and allowing friends to spread it around."

I've already emailed my reponse, but thought this would be a great opportunity for other Facebook users to have some input into what kind of applications are built for the site.

As a real estate agent, what kind of functionality would you like to see on Facebook? What kind of tools and applications would help you connect with consumers in your market? Share your thoughts and ideas in the comments, and I'll be sure that they get to the developer.

Marlene - Ironic that you mention RealEstateShows. That was one of the items on my list -- the ability to publish RES flyers on our profiles. Let me know when you have a profile set up and I can show you some great applications.

John, there is already 3 places to post listings and if you post a reshow in your blog and have a feed into facebook, it will come up. The 3 places are Market Place, CribFinder and LivePads.

I am on Facebook, but frustrated that one must register to even view my profile. Kinda limits the exposure a bit. If I could have anything on FB, it would be more transparency.

My agent friend in Minneapolis tells me that Facebook is all the rage there. I have a profile on Facebook, but there are only so many hours in the day -- know what I mean, jelly bean?

Nancy - Take chatting one step further and imagine chatting with potential buyers or sellers. They're on the site, we just need to connect with them. Thanks for reading!

Missy - Thanks for the tips on RES and the three real estate apps. I like the amount of detail LivePads provides for each home. It's great to have others in the Rain who have a little experience on Facebook so we can all share our finds.

Ed - That's a great point -- consumers should be able to access our profiles without registering. Maybe Facebook could install a 'make my profile public' button for members who want that exposure. Thanks for your input!

Tom - According to Facebook's stats, their active users are "doubling every 6 months." Fortunately I was able to sidestep the sheep, which now happily resides on a ranch north of Las Vegas. Thanks for stopping by!

Elizabeth - Take a look at the My Blogs application which will let you post RSS feeds of up to five of your blogs on your Profile page.

I'm not so sure it will. I think I tried that in the past and this application does not like the way my RSS feed shows the information. The feed shows the name of the piece and one or two lines about it, and that's not sufficient for My Blogs, for some reason. They've tweaked it but can't make it work for me. And About.com won't change its RSS feeds. So I'm stuck in the middle.
