Adding a Smile to Vancouver Home Staging - Try a Little Whimsy

ADDING A SMILE TO VANCOUVER HOME STAGING

TRY A LITTLE WHIMSY

Adding a smile to Vancouver Home Staging – try a little whimsy!  When styling a property for sale, I don’t like to take myself too seriously.  Yes, it’s important to follow design elements and principles to achieve a well laid out, presentable home for sale.  However, adding a little bit of fun or whimsy makes properties memorable – in a good way!

 Whimsy in Home Staging

I was inspired by a recent trip to the Las Vegas Furniture Market.  It seems I’m not alone, as I found many examples of items and accessories that were just a little bit quirky and fun.  Here are a few of my findings…

 Whimsy in Home Staging

Ok, I might not do a whole feature wall of pigs’ noses, but a snout tucked here or there?  Why not?  Oh, and these are gilded pigs’ snouts – that adds a little bit of class, no?

 Whimsy in Home Staging

We all know that it’s a good idea to send Fido to a friend’s house when showing your property, but how about a doggie replica, complete with leopard doggie bed?  If you live in a dog friendly neighbourhood, as I do, these might send just the message that dogs are welcome, with many off leash trails nearby.

 Whimsy in Home Staging

Never since the Godfather movie have horse heads been so popular.  We saw many examples, in all different materials, including wood, metal, and ceramic.  Equine heads look great in a den, office of living room.  I’ll be trotting off to the store to stock up on these items!

Whimsy in Home Staging

When looking at several homes in one day, home buyers need a reprieve from the same old, same old.  We like to shake things up with a memorable item that makes home buyers smile and remember your property for sale.

Roger - I knew you'd "get it"!

Valerie - Oooh, yes, or I was thinking maybe a few in the hallway to double as coat hooks?!!!

I must be living a sheltered life Sally, I have never heard of gilded pig snouts before. Now that I know such a thing exists, I think every house should have one. We all need some whimsy in our lives. I would display it on my wall, and all my visitors would remark at how whimsical I have become.

Malcolm - Well, you certainly would be making a statement, and my guess is that you'd be the only person in Trenton, Ontario, with a gilded pig snout on your wall. I think your visitors would be very impressed and you would become unforgettable!

Sally - great examples of "Making it Memorable"!  But a gilded pig's snout is still just a pig's snout ;)

I love these examples....much better than being remembered for dirty laundry on the floor or a hot pink master bedroom with mirrors on the ceiling.

SALLY!  "Whimsey" is one of my favorite words. Buyers have fun, and are engaged, often lingering in a house longer than usual.  Humor is a secret wepon, it elevates the house, great topic!

Sally - Wonderful examples, and I love this post.  Here on the NC Coast, properties are often sold furnished & equipped, so A potential buyer may be more willing to make an offer knowing he is getting pig snouts in the deal ;0)  Of course, often, we see a little too much "Whimsy" on the beach....

Sharon - Oh, or dirty dishes in the sink or office furniture in the dining room!!!

MARIE! - I love what you say:  "Humour is a secret weapon that elevates the house" - I'm going to have to borrow that line - you are so right!

Amy - Throw in a pig snout and let me know what happens!  Oh yes, I've seen beaches filled with over-the-top whimsy - there should definitely be a fine balance...

Kim - You definitely have to join us at the market next year - oh yes, sniffing out trends is like sniffing out truffles - there's always a gem to be found!  One golden retriever coming up!

Sally, I love it! Where's my pig snout? LOL! I like to leave some of the seller's personality in the home so it's still a home not a show room.

I've been wanting to use more whimsy also.  I just bought some chess pieces - horses, king, bishop that are about 6" tall and bright red at Hobby Lobby.  Can't wait to use them!

Janice - I so agree - a home without personality is just a little sterile.

Cathy Lee - A trip down memory lane...  Didn't we have fun?  I miss you, too!

Marianne - Yes, pigs noses!!!  You know you want to put one on the wall!  Ha ha - yes, I'm dragging you to the show next year.

Maureen - I'm with you.  What's not to love about dogs?!!

Beth - Oh, sounds very whimsical - don't forget to post pics!

Sal Gal, everywhere I look, when I'm shopping now, I see pet beds! I just might have to buy one! I love your angle about the horse heads! The Godfather! Ha! Can't go as far as snouts on a wall though... Y'know there's an old blues song called "Give Me a Pig's Foot and a Bottle of Beer', maybe we can change it to snout...

Peggy Sue!  Ha ha - love the sound of that song.  Next time we get together, we'll have to share a couple of brewskies and you can teach me that new song!

Sally - love the items you found and I also love a little whimsy! A store I know sells old door knobs (the crystal kind) for coat and jacket holders. I love them and have used them in staging and they work great. Keep the pictures coming - I love your interesting finds and since we don't have the same stores it's fun to see what products are in your neck of the woods!
