Deck the Halls with Realtor Cars

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Realty 0575737

As the season for decorating Christmas trees, houses with lights, and glorious displays in shopping malls comes upon us I got to thinking about those wild cars I see many Realtors have. Is this branding thing getting worse in slower markets or are the egos getting so large many are just driving around with a billboard on wheels?

Realtor CarI mean some of these Real Estate agents really want you to pay attention. Afterall they have demanding sellers that after nine months on the market want to know their agent is doing everything possible for them for a buyer to pick up the phone or email them to make contact. I'm starting to think moving from decals with the broker's hot air balloons to covering the complete back window and painting the entire car is getting very committed in this area. Or should the agent be "committed" to an institution with the men in the white jackets?

Don't you wonder how they ever re-sell these vehicles whether they be the agent's own touring personal one or the moving vans they buy with their picture plastered all over the sides and back?

Do any of us think this really helps sell homes faster or make a better agent? I must give credit to the branding and marketing side though. It does get your attention even if only to give a chuckle in your day. If you've seen some wild "decorations" in your area please share. I sometimes think I would feel like a cartoon character climbing into one of these Hummer or Cooper beasts and driving around neighborhoods. Hey but at least people would look at me. That's what it is all about.

I sense at times we want to go back to being the "secret agent" and turn off that wonderful marketing machine we may have created. I suppose the solution is multiple vehicles in the family.

Gary,

If this particular decor works, why not continue with it. It definitely draws attention to itself cruising down the streets. However, it just seems too far out there to make it long-term. Imagine yourself sitting in it going to look at homes.

Gary -

My High "I" says, oh yah go for it, sure absolutely, show it all over and enjoy and smile and wave, etc...

My High "D" says, don't waste the time on the goofy car, just blast ahead, get the LG done.....

so far the "D" is winning....

With all the money spent in advertising and much of it wasted I did a study and found that branding with a car wrap is a very good investment. I invested in a PT cruiser and have a second car when I wish not to be noticed

Ginger, I saw the photo of your vehicle on your site and thought it was beautiful. The folks around College Station will definitely know where you're at all the time. VERY CLASSY!

Gary, one more good thing about wraps.  It forces you to be a better driver and helps you keep your temper in check.  lol

Also when you get ready to sell you can have the wraps removed.

In my town a realtor had an ad for herself on her  car which was very discreet compared to the photos in these comments.  A policeman stopped her and gave her a ticket for having advertising on a private non-commercial vehicle.  Turns out in MA if you have advertising on your vehicle you must have it registered as a commercial vehicle which means much higher costs for insurance, etc.

I believe that it is effective advertising, people will remember you. I don't have a wrap but I have vinyl on my side and back windows and it gets me noticed. Most often when I meet a new person, they say that they see me all over town. That has to help anytime someone can remember you. I don't believe that ego has anything to do with it. it is branding that is quite affordable.

I was afraid to look at this post.  I personally think that it's a bit over the top to decorate your car with advertising. It sure is fun to look at the pictures though.

Now that I've seen more wrapped cars I'm starting to think those Realtors that do it really have a flair. But I think I would want to also drive around in an ordinary car some part of the time and not draw attention to myself constantly.

Oh, Gary, you crack me up.  I think you're post caught quite a bit of attention.  Do you think the Realtor in your example actually shows clients in that vehicle?

Mary Ann: I'm sure that Realtor is pretty proud of that vehicle and does listing appointments and buyers in that car. I saw a Bright Yellow Taxi Cab color Scion today in our parking lot today. Not only decked out but bright colors!

Gary--I wouldn't be a happy client in that vehicle, but, hey, that's just me.  Now, Ginger's is great and I'd be okay with riding in something done tastefully like hers.  I think it depends on the usage.  The vehicle in your example would be an attention grabber at sport events, etc.  But I still don't think it is a message I would be comfortable using for my business.  Wraps make accounting sense for a REALTOR, but I believe the message should be classy.

Mine is simple, but the Red does draw attention! If I get 1 thing from it then it is worth it. So far I just get comments about why didn't I get a red jeep??

Looking at all of these great pictures and comments certainly brightened my day.  Too outrageous for me.  In my market, most people have money and you would never know it.  Too ostentatious for this area.
