When You Find Yourself In A Hole...

Stop Digging!

Our National Debt is currently over $15 Trillion Dollars. IS THAT EVEN A REAL NUMBER?

Yes, it is real. It is:

·         15, with 12 zeroes Dollars

·         15 Thousand Billion Dollars

·         15 Million Million Dollars

·         15 Billion Thousand Dollars

Has our federal government stopped spending money? No.

Has out federal government slowed our rate of spending? Uh… sometimes.

Who cares, right? I care. You should care.

In the short term, increased spending can stimulate the housing market, and, as real estate professionals, we like that. But, look around you. How many homes are foreclosed, or sold on a short sale? How many people are unemployed, under-employed, or have simply stopped looking? If you add all three of those categories, our national unemplyment rate is nearly 20%! That’s one of every five Americans!

The best we ever get from our elected officials is a reduction of the rate of spending. Never do we see a “freeze” on spending, or, better yet… an actual reduction of spending.

Think out it. Is there any business on America that could not operate with a reduction in their spending of one percent? How about two percent? How about “X” percent? Of course they could… and, they do. Your brokerage does an analysis of expenses frequently, and, if they must reduce spending by 10%... they do it!

How about you, as a REALTOR®? Don’t you reduce spending, when necessary?

How about your family? Do you have a budget? Do you control your spending? Do you continue to borrow money, so you can continue to spend, spend, spend?

We have national elections this November. Get involved. Go to town hall meetings and let the candidates know how you feel. Remember too, to hold your local, county, and state officials accountable. None of them are willing, without pressure from their constituents, to stop spending.

But, they must. Unbridled spending is killing our country: not just our real estate market. We are spinning, nearly out of control.

Get involved. Stay involved. Elect people who will stop spending. If necessary, run for office yourself!

Nice post about taking charge of our finances and it's a shame how credit limits given are often times maxed out by consumers - not understanding that it "isn't" free money. Interest adds up fast if you carry these limits out for years, without paying them down or off.

Excellent post. The sad thing is that in Economics classes now, the homework for the kids is to keep a look at the national debt clock and report how much it changes in X amount of time.

More opinions than you want to hear about.

Elect who?  The only people who posess the character and personality flaws needed to win an election are so close to being clones that it doesn't matter who wins.  Of course, there's the big lie, " Elect me.  I'm not like the others."

Good article.  Like the photo, but think we are even deeper into the hole.

While we can curb our spending the chances of the government stopping or even slowing down are just wishful thinking.
