This past week, I attended the annual Hawaii Wealth Summit. It was held at the Hilton Hawaiian Village with somewhere around 200 registered. One subject was Short Term Memory Loss. The presenter was Doug Bench, considered among the world's foremost Brain Science experts. He taught us that the brain can be trained.
Did you know that 5/6 of the brain is Non-conscious and it's the 1/6 conscious portion that we can use to train the brain if we want to make changes in our lives? Repeat things you want to retain in your mind. Repetition can help "hold" things in your short term memory.
Studies have been shown that your brain's short term memory holds a thought for up to 43 seconds, then basically "Tosses" it. Example: Have you ever met someone for the first time and they told you their name? One minute later, you have to say something like "oh....I'm sorry, what was your name again?"
To remember something for longer than 43 seconds you will need to commit it to long term memory. The best way to do this is to think about the meaning of what you have to remember. The more attention you pay to something in short term memory that you want to remember, the more likely you are to store it in long term memory.
