This is my official "Merry Christmas"

I don't know where you are or who you are with. I don't know if you are surrounded by friends and family or wandering in your thoughts alone. I don't know if you believe in Christmas, or even believe in happy times, but this is a time to be everything.

It is a time to remember the people who love you, and who you love. It is a time to look at the world and lend your hand, or ask for a hand to lend to you. It is a time to forgive, a time to cherish, a time to keep hope, and a time to realize how gifted we each are in wonderfully unique ways.

I don't care if it is Christmas, Chanukah, Kwanzaa, Yuletide, Winter Solstice, Tet... from eastern religion to hopeful thoughts. This is a time to look at the person next to you and remember they are human, like you, that they have thoughts and dreams, hopes and aspirations, and are loved by someone, if not by you.

This is a time to take action, rather than inaction. To practice kindness and goodwill, to teach our children and our neighbors that mankind can practice the truest ideas of what humanity should be.

On Christmas, if not every day, take a moment to look people in the eye and give them hope. Share your dreams with the poeple who do not have a dream, share your hospitality with anyone who does not have a place to go, and  wear your heart openly, with a smiling face of kindness and generousity.

Merry Christmas everyone,

Very well said, particularly how you cut through all religious and cultural barriers, ignore political correctness and distill it down to one point of commonality - humanity. I especially like "Look people in the eye and give them hope." Merry Christmas, Barry!

And I like how you said do this on 'this day or any day.' If there is any point to religion it should be the goal of peace and good will. Thank you Barry, this is the kind of hope I like to hear and need to hear. Peace.

And a very Merry Christmas to you, Barry, and to your family.

"This is a time to look at the person next to you and remember they are human". People in the airports should remember this as well - at Heathrow, in New York, in Denver - everywhere there are masses of people and not enough space or not enough staff. Take a moment, smile at them, and understand they are like you. Due to Heathrow's fog, it took friends of ours 48 hours to travel from Scotland to Florida - but they are here, and that's what matters.

We think to greet people during the Christmas season, wish them well and wish them hope.

If only it would last all year....
