Hi everyone!! It's time to ask for your help again....especially because I had so much fun with your Halloween entries. You will get link-love in return, so send me your stuff! Whether it's a beautifully decorated home in your neck of the woods a family tradition, even recipes.....if you dare!

rick_and_ines_christmas.jpgThis is my favorite part of the year! The decorations, the holiday spirit, the sharing, the shopping, the gifts!

I hope you saw what fun we had with Halloween entries, but now I want to ask for you to send me anything that has to do with The end of the year Holidays. Whether it's Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa or any other special celebration.

We, at Miamism, love diversity and specially enjoy to hear about different holiday traditions from different households. Whether it's a story, a special poem, a photo......send us anything you appreciate about the holidays and we will post it here. It's a happy time of the year and nothing better than celebrating and enjoying stories with others.

e-mail us at info@miamism.com

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!

What fun to read about other Rainer's holiday traditions.  Great idea for a post.  I see my Buddy Lynda Eisenmann has outed me as the carnival barker who warms up the crowd in preparation for her baton twirling show.  She does her fire baton act at night and it's always fun to watch the crowd's reaction when they realize she's not a teenager.  Lynda puts on quite a show and many want to try it, but most get tuckered in a minute or so.  That dang fire baton is HEAVY.

Than, during the Rose Parade, when there's a little lull in the action, she gets out on the center line of the strett and struts her stuff.  She's always a big hit.

The other tradition is the card section.  We make up card that award points and say silly things.  Last year, Lynda and I got a Hi Howdy from the Oakridge Boys who stopped mis-song to say hi to the two ParrotHeads sitting on the curb wearing our Parrothead hats and holding up our silly signs.

It's always a hoot with Lynda and her family.  I'm so lucky to be "adopted".

OK here is the recipe for my Pumpkin Bread that gets scarfed up as soon as I can bake it every year!

You can add nuts as an option, and also PUMPKIN PIE SPICE can take the place of nutmeg all spice and cinnamon, I normally use this and add a bit more than the recipe calls for...

This last year I concocked my own frosting for the top, man they were an even bigger hit!!!

INGREDIENTS

  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 3 cups white sugar
  • 1 cup canola oil
  • 4 eggs, beaten
  • 2 cups solid pack pumpkin puree
  • 2/3 cup water

DIRECTIONS
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease two loaf pans.
  2. In a medium mixing bowl, combine flour, baking soda, salt, baking powder, nutmeg, allspice, cinnamon and cloves.
  3. In a large bowl with an electric mixer, blend sugar, oil and eggs. Stir in pumpkin. Slowly blend the flour mixture into pumpkin mixture. While blending the mixture add water incrementally. Pour the batter into two prepared loaf pans.
  4. Bake in a preheated 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) oven for 90 minutes. Let cool for 10 minutes before removing from the pans.

Hi Ines,

This year I will be in Bogotá, Colombia for Christmas. My wife was born in Caracas, but she has lived most of her life in Bogotá and that is where most of her family is. This is not my first year having Christmas in Colombia. I always look forward to the big family gatherings, los buñuelos, la natilla and other "cosas tipicas". I also enjoy how everyone gets together on Christmas Eve instead of celebrating in the morning the day of Christmas. It makes for a much more festive celebration.

Hi Brian - I did my Thesis in Cartagena and it was absolutely beautiful.  I'm sure you can find a holiday related something to send me so I can include you in Miamism - maybe a picture of the holiday food.  HMMMM!  We also celebrate New Year's Eve and it's a lot of fun.  I do miss the holidays in Venezuela, it is a lot of fun.
