NAR grants optional ban on the words MLS and Multiple Listing Service

By

The National Association of REALTORS Board of Directors approved a provision that allows REALTOR-affiliated multiple listing services to ban members' use of the terms "MLS" and "Multiple Listing Service" in Web site addresses, company names, e-mail addresses and other marketing materials.

NAR is giving the local Realtor affiliated multiple listing services the OPTION to enact this ban.

Are you kidding me? Realtors are the good guys! For the past ten years, hundreds of businesses have found ways to sell Realtors leads off our own listings.  Outlawing these terms gives the outside lions new domains that Realtors are not allowed to use anymore. With this new provision, NAR is allowing every large broker driven power hungry MLS become a Barney Fife of the internet.  The truth is that some agents and brokers have been out done in regards to exposure and lead generation.

This is good information to stay on top of. I believe everyone needs to log on to Realtor.org and stay up to date with all the decisions NAR makes and implements! And get involved politically with their associations to have their voices heard

SO, so typical.  We pay for it so that others can take advantage of it.

I cannot wait to hear how our local associations are going to handle this.  I'm already up in arms and I haven't seen anything from them yet.

There is a movement located at www freethemls com (remove the spaces and add the dots) to have this decision recended.

If you fee strongly about the absurdity of this decision, perhaps having you voice heard in the petition is a good start?

Also, mention this at your next office meeting and make sure others are not only aware of this but also of the consequences!

It only affects MEMBERS, not non members who can freely use this term in all their advertising.

How's that for a level playing field

The petition is at www.FreeTheMLS.com

Everyone that has a stake in this issue (and that's most of us) needs to visit this site today and sign the petition.

It checks your NRDS ID number so that only current Realtors can sign.

You can get that NRDS number at www.Realtor.org but you have to be registered to log in and get it. Registration only takes a couple of minutes.
