CARTERET COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARY located on 602 Turner Street (same road as the courthouse!) has a wonderful story time programs for children.  Not to mention a small table with numerous of puzzles and play area for toddlers.  Computer games and so much more!

I have 2 daughters ages 7 & 4. Spending quality time with them if very important to me so I would like to share one of our favorite pastimes! Every Friday (for ages 3 and under) or Wednesday (ages 3-5) we would drive to the Beaufort Waterfront starting about 8am with a fresh cup of coffee for me and an orange juice -maybe an occasional hot chocolate with whip cream for them at the "coffee house" located 2 blocks away from the Library on Turner Street. Venturing down to the boardwalk where we would see all kinds of different boats of different shapes and sizes. Looking in between the dock and the boardwalk we could see all kinds of different fish. We would see baby trigger-fish, sea urchins, minnows, file fish, even all those barnacles were a huge topic and amazing to little ones! In the distance we would spot a pod dolphins jumping in the water or the wild ponies on Carrot Island! Always a thriller for the children and for me too!  I can never get tired of this water-view! Make sure to pull a wagon in case they get tired and of course sun hats on those really warm days! -- We would then make our way through Queen Street where there are 2 great local Restaurants - one in particular that has an herb garden out front.  Always a treat to stop and smell each herb plant and try to guess what they are - Lucky for me they were all marked!  Making our way to Ann Street and turning left we could view all the wonderful and Beautifully Landscaped Historic Homes -my children would treat it like a treasure hunt carrying baskets for all their special finds.  We would find an array of flowers/pine cones/seed pods/different leaves to collect and smell/many exotic plants as well.  Not to mention to chat with some of the locals who are always friendly. Finally making our way back to Turner Street just in time for story time!  Usually beginning at 10AM!  Call to confirm hours at 252-728-2050!  Website:  http://carteret.cpclib.org

Story time will last for 1 hour usually ending in a clever craft for them to take home!  What a great way to spend the morning!  A little exercise, bonding with my girls, appreciating and enjoying the natural wonders around us -  and ending with a good book with our friends! Visitors are ALWAYS WELCOME!
