In yesterday's blog Getting Motivated # 4, I talked about focus. The example was Dallas Cowboys head coach Jimmy Johnson’s talk to the team before the 1993 Super Bowl. His message was simple, stay focused.
As I started writing this morning, it occurs to me that focus will be meaningless unless there is a goal. The more specific the goal, the easier it will be to maintain your focus. So today's message is to write a specific goal that will ignite your passion and excite your imagination. It is the combination of the two that will drive your motivation to stay focused.
Who do you think of as a great visionary? Who do you think is the one that achieved that very specific inspirational goal? For me, the first two visionaries that immediately come to mind are Walt Disney and Steve Jobs.
The first movie I ever saw in a movie theater was a Walt Disney film. It was 101 Dalmatians. Now, who wouldn’t fall in love with all of those spotted puppies! And since that time, I have loved Walt Disney’s movies. Disneyland, Disney World, Epcot are all examples of creating the specific goal and then staying focused.
I have been listening to the book on audio on Steve Jobs. One of the first chapters clearly stated his goal, he wanted to change the world. He has done just that.
With that inspiration, what is your specific goal?
