I generally keep personal affairs out of print but I am making an exception out of pride and nervousness. My wife has been serving in Afghanistan since last June and will soon be coming home to her U.S. base.
I thank and pray for all of the soldiers who have been her friend and watched her back in a place where the chance of dying is high and daily, nightly, hourly - where burning a book causes murderous behavior - to date at least 30 murders at the hands of misguided radicals.
She will travel out of there in the air and into and out of places that are targets of these insane and damaged people - places where tensions well beyond being late for an appointment or being stuck in traffic are at a fever pitch. War is business and generally sad, back-ground noise in the life of most which is understandable, but, to some it is personal.
I take today to be selfish and send a specific prayer on behalf of me and our daughters - May God watch over my wife their mother and those aiding you in your return to the United States.
