Communicate The Way Your Clients Want You To

I Happened On An Interesting Comment A Few Moments Ago

I was searching for the term "real estate" in Terraminds, which is a Twitter search tool, and found the following "tweet."

"YEAH, my real estate agent Angie joined twitter! We love our house btw Angie!"

Terraminds Twitter SearchThe statement was made by discorax, whose bio says he is in WebDev Design. Here's a consumer who is obviously tech savvy and as you can see by his expression on Twitter above, he likes the fact that his real estate agent is connected to him in the way he wants to be connected with.

The real estate agent, Angie Bondurant, signed up for her Twitter account less than one day ago and is only following discorax. That's not the point. I don't know if she'll ever follow anyone else. I also have no idea if she understood what she was signing up for, but it appears she certainly understood one thing... how to communicate with her client in the way he wanted to be communicated with.

If Angie is smart, she'll continue communicating with him that way.

The number of clients who are communicating to me through Active Rain contacts should be an alert that our way of communicating is changing and we need to embrace that change.

Good point. One of the first questions I ask my clients is what their perfered method of communication is.  So far none have said it is twitter, or facebook.  Sometimes I think they want me to help them buy a house and it really hurts my feelings but I am not all that sure they want me for a friend.  Some do, but others don't.

Jeff, I have my own form that asks my clients about their preferred means of communication...it looks like I need to update it...again!  Thanks for this.

I couldn't begin to keep up with all of these forms of communication!  The list just keeps getting longer...

Although it is a headache, it is important to keep up with new technologies. A lot of buyers and sellers are in their 20s and 30s and love their technology. My 2cents....

I am with you on this one.  One of my first questions to all of my clients is "What is your preferred method of communication?"   I even once took a loan application via text message.

So here is my question...  If I get involved in all of the technologies and social media, will I have any time left to actually work?  I wonder what the ROI is for many of these media... based on the time invested.

Jeff, thanks for the reminder. I read something a month or so ago along the same lines: if your clients prefer texting, then text them; if they prefer e-mail, then e-mail them; if they prefer old-fashioned phone calls, call away!

Hi Jeff, I found this to be a very interesting tool and will try and use it more. I live and work near Microsoft and the tech belt and feel keeping up with the latest in trends and client connection techniques is crutial to stay current with where your clients go. Thanks!

I took the plunge and joined today.  Of course, it was down part of the day, and I can't figure out how to use gtalk to view twits.  Do you have a twitter guide for dummies?? :o )

I have never heard of it but that should come as no surprise. This tech stuff takes some time and energy.  If only I were 19 again when my mind was.....

I like the idea.  I'm a little concerned of how many different ways some people are choosing to communicate.  For myself, I think I just need to find one or two that work for my clients and run with them.

This is an interesting option though!

Jeff, Thanks for your insight.  I'm new to Twitter and AR.  I totally get AR but Twitter was a little foggy.  The light bulb just went off in my head! It's all about connecting to people in a way they are familiar with.
