 Decorators Alliance of North America

I am a member of the Decorators Alliance of North America (DANA) and am inviting you, fellow Stagers and Decorating Professionals, to join too.  I know there are some other stagers here in AR that are members also.  This can be a great addition to the other professional trade organizations that you might be a part of.

I have really appreciated the ongoing classes & education they offer in interior decorating, marketing, and running a small business, as well as other networking opportunities. They also list you in their directory and link to your website. This brings leads as well as helps your site engine rankings. I know I have received leads that have come from my DANA listing.

They also have linked up with other companies to offer special discounts to their members. If you sign up before the end of the year, you will also receive:

- free fabric book samples (which will be great when you get into helping to redesign people's homes after you staged the one they sold)

- 4 free continuing education teleseminars in
January and February, 2008

Here is a little more about DANA:

DANA was established to provide professional level affiliation and certification for the interior decorating industry. The goal of the alliance is to offer members opportunities to enhance their expert status through continuing education, certification programs, networking, mastermind groups, and interactive forums.

The organization has a significant and broad-based benefit program: enhanced credibility, purchasing power with supply partners, research on the latest trends and topics, marketing support, decorating and business resources and tools, development courses, monthly continuing education teleseminars and even live workshops.

Membership for 2007 also includes: coupons and discounts, free website help, free wireless credit card terminals, decorator directory listing, use of DANA appellation, members-only forum, free monthly newsletter, decorator spotlight opportunities, annual decorating award opportunities, and 25% off annual DANA conferences and tabletop shows. What could be better!

The other great thing is that DANA is in a growth stage and they have opportunities for you to get involved in key positions if you desire, this will help you to establish your expert status.

Thanks for the info on this association.  Like Karen, I'm also interested in educational opportunities & those with benefits for staging professionals.  I'm curious if there are many DANA members here on A/R and I hope they'll jump in here to give us some feedback.

Hi Lea-Ann...thanks for the info!  I like that there is actually an exam you can take, rather than just buying a certificate.  You mentioned that DANA is in a "growth stage" - can you tell me more about that? How long have they been around, # members, key positions, etc?

Thanks!

Karen and Maureen - I think it's a great idea to research the groups or organizations you want to be a part of!  There have been a few posts here lately about different organizations.  I thought I would give you a peek at DANA as I am a member.  If you have any other questions please let me know!

Susan - I am currently studying for the exam (300 page study guide - very thorough).  The exam and study guide were written by Margaret DeGangi of The DeGangi School of Interior Decoration and Nika Stewart who has run her own successful Interior Decorating business and is now a coach for others - both of whom I admire for their expertise.)  I appreciate this aspect of DANA also.  They are trying to grow the organization and they have opportunities for key positions within the organization and also you can submit articles that they promote and spotlight.  One last thing I appreciate is the on going education that I have access to.  I believe this shows my clients that I am always striving to provide them the best by staying current and improving my business.  It also helps me to continue to grow in confidence and skill that will translate into a more successful business as well. Obviously, we know there are differences in how you approach designing and decorating a home for sale vs. to live in but the principals underlying are the same.  I am actually attending one of their tele-classes tonight!  Let me know if you have any other questions!
