This entry is dedicated to Mike "Hogs Head" Bosela, a RealTown Blogger. I am trying to lure Mike to Active Rain. It is all part of my quest to conquer Active Rain through invite points. Don't let the Rainer in my market who is calling for people to rank down my blog know... it gives him something to do..... keeps him busy so he does not have time to add useful entries to his blog, consumer content or even something usefull for other Active Rainers... all he has time for is promoting manipulating another Rainer's points and rants about Market Reports.... but I digress....
Polling
I use FreePolls from Nexodyne. Yes, you have to join something else. Maybe there are other Polls to use too.. but until RealTown Blogs offers Polling you will have to join this or something else to add polls to your RealTown Blog...
Anyway
1. Join http://services.nexodyne.com/freepolls/register.php
2. Create a new poll - mine are always black and white because I don't remember to find color #'s ahead of time. Background color: # Text color: # are choices. Choose up to 10
Here's an example:
New Years Resolutions - Do you make them?
Options.
Option 1: Yes
Option 2: No
Option 3: I make New Years Resolutions for other people
3. Add the poll. Then go to Current polls find your poll in the list
New Years Resolutions - Do you make them? (Open - 1 vote | Get poll code | Voting page)
click on Get poll code. Copy the code.
4. Go to your RealTown Blog and start a new entry. Copy the html on the left side of the page (Use this code to use inline voting:) into your RealTown Blogs entry.
You are adding this to an entry via the editor using the source code (hint source is the top left button on the entry editor.)
Example:
New Years Resolutions - Do you make them?<div><form action="http://services.nexodyne.com/freepolls/vote.php" method="post"><input type="hidden" name="poll_id" value="1732" />Select an option:<br />
<input type="radio" name="poll_vote" value="0" />Yes
<input type="radio" name="poll_vote" value="1" />No
<input type="radio" name="poll_vote" value="2" />I make new years resolutions for other people
<input type="submit" value="Vote!" /></form></div>
<div style="text-align: center"><a href="http://services.nexodyne.com/freepolls/index.php" title="Get your own polls"><img src="http://services.nexodyne.com/freepolls/pollimg.php?poll_id=1732&poll_width=375" alt="Results" style="border: 1px #E0E0E0 outset" /></a></div>
5. Optional break the code up into two entries. Copy only up to <input type="submit" value="Vote!" /> in the Poll entry. Copy the poll results (starts with </form> ) into another entry...which I time stamp before the poll so that it shows up after the poll (this is optional obviously...) . in my highly scientific polls.
Example of the results part of the poll:
</form></div>
<div style="text-align: center"><a href="http://services.nexodyne.com/freepolls/index.php" title="Get your own polls"><img src="http://services.nexodyne.com/freepolls/pollimg.php?poll_id=1732&poll_width=375" alt="Results" style="border: 1px #E0E0E0 outset" /></a></div>
6. Really Optional adding the poll to your template. I am going to save that for later... It is like saving anything else in your template and I don't want to overwhelm anyone. It helps you get people to continue voting as you add more entries. Otherwise the poll gets buried. This hint thanks to blogger / Active Rainer Teresa Boardman. Teresa is a TypePad Blogger and she uses a different site for her polls.
Play with it... maybe you can teach me how to do polls different, better....
Hey Do you make New Years Resolutions? Do you keep New Years Resolutions? Visit my blog and "Vote!"
