Any Hill Too Steep to Climb?
Do you think there any hills too steep to climb? Do you relish a challenge and believe you are up for almost anything? I often feel that way, but must admit I did not meet a challenge on Saturday. I was riding bike through San Francisco and was on Hyde Street. I crested the first portion of Hyde Street and looked ahead of me said, “No way!”
Now those who are younger or in better shape may have simply plowed ahead and climbed that hill. Just 5 years ago, I would have done that. But I am not in the kind of shape required to climb the Hyde Street hill on the bike I was on.
This got me to thinking about some of the “steep hill” challenges we face in real estate. If you are a buyer or seller of a home for sale in Lancaster County PA, you will need to consider the challenges you might face in completing a successful real estate transaction.
Buyers of homes for sale in Lancaster PA must consider the amount of payment you may want to undertake. Possibly you can receive a loan for a great amount, but the payment may feel a bit too steep for you. This is important, but I also know, stretching yourself a bit now may benefit you in the long run. Consider how steep a hill you will consider climbing?
As a buyer, you may consider purchasing a fixer-upper. The amount of work you desire to complete, the extensive repairs required, and the ability to acquire financing for a fixer-upper will help you determine how steep a hill you might consider climbing.
Selling a home in Lancaster PA also requires some considerations. Are you willing to completely commit to the inconvenience which showing and selling will require of you? This will be a steep hill, but without a total commitment to the process, you will impede your own success. You may consider how willing you are to live without some of your furniture and personal belongings as you stage your home to sell? This is a steep hill and if you are not prepared to climb it, you will overcome it by reducing your asking price.
In the race to successfully complete your real estate transaction, there will be many hills to climb. Just how steep a climb are you willing to undertake?
Cal ~ Good post. There are several hurdles we may encounter going through the buying or selling process. Having the foresight and positive perspective will help overcome many of the obstacles that may show up in any transaction. Sticking with it, persevering every step will enable us to get to the top of that hill....
As for that hill in your picture? I am in nooo shape to exercise... ;)
Great post my friend. I hate to run hills but know that in business they are necessary. The way I tackle them is one step at a time.
Cal - your photo brings to mind another hill one should consider when buying in a high rise condo how many stairs will you have to climb if the power goes out and there is no elevator or a low rise condo with out one and you purchased a third floor unit
HI Cal,
If buying a home is causing a real up hill battle, may be we need to lower the expectations a little, and buy within our means.... Love your picture and analogy...;)
Jon, thanks and I hear you about not being in shape to climb that hill.
Paula, I hear you about the toll hills take on you when running. I used to actually kind of like the hills and would attack too hard. It was hard for me to pace myself. You are right about taking those hills one step at a time.
Kathy, now that is a great reminder to take that into consideration.
Peter and Linda, it is important to not make that hill too steep when deciding to buy. Have a great day.
Cal
There is no hill too steep to climb. You look at where a lot of us have been and it makes all things possible because we have perservered. Thanks for the post!
Cal, I could climb that hill on foot but not on a bike, definitely not! We are still in the real estate arena pursuing a way of life, so that says something about stamina, here to stay!
Good one Cal.
And its a marathon, not a sprint.
Have a great day and talk to you soon..
Paul, in attitude, I agree with you and I would say that most of us in looking back may feel like we have climbed Mt. Everest over the course of our lifetimes. However, those climbs take intense preparation and planning and it is sometime wise to realize that on this day I am not prepared to climb that mountain.
I hear you Wanda. I considered walking the bike up the hill, but opted to ride around it.
Greg, I look forward to more connections and life is like a marathon that is for sure and we need to prepare for it.
Cal
Great analogy Cal. That is, until you get to Lombard St. I might consider not going up that hill.
Hi Cal, I have to say, your post is always the best! I love your post, and everytime I see your background of your blog I feel fresh and relaxed! Thank you for sharing with us this excellent post!
Have a good day!
Hi Cal, Great analogy and I it's great that you realized your limits in regards to riding up Hyde Street. Buyers definitely need to know their limits and buyers in the Lancaster area need to connect with you so they can find out their true buying power and what hills they can climb.
