Say Hello To My Little "Woolly" Friend

By

Hiking on the Blue Hill Trail in the Sherburne County Wildlife refuge yesterday, I ran across this little "Woolly Bear" Caterpillar in the middle of the trail. My first thought was maybe it was dead, but after a little poke it surprised me and moved (it didn't jump up-thank god). Even Samson came over a gave it a little whiff, but he had more important things on his mind, like where's that big "Wizard" he took a leak on the other day.

The weather has been a little screwy around here this winter, but this is crazy. Come on, it's the middle of winter and there's a caterpillar hiking on my SKI trail. I actually felt bad for the little guy, there's supposed to be a big snow storm coming our way (4"-6"), so they say. I don't think there's a meteorologist in the twin cities area that could predict their way out of a wet paper bag this winter season.

But just in case, I've got my long underwear out, my ski boots are by the door, and the skis are waxed and ready to go. I'm like a little kid on Christmas Eve waiting to see what Santa brought, hopefully it's six inches of fluffy white stuff, what we used to call SNOW!

We've got spring peepers chirping away, cherry trees blooming and Eagles with eggs in their nests.  Strange weather this year.  Hope your little woolly caterpillar survives whatever is coming your way.

We've had several Woolly Bears hanging around this winter. It amazes me and astounds me. But, they trudge on.

I haven't seen any caterpillars, but then I haven't spent much time outdoors this winter. When I don't have outdoor critters to feed, I just don't get out there much.

This has been such a mild winter - every time we get a snow storm it melts off in a few days. Maybe not this last one though - it was only 9 above last night and supposed to stay cold for a few days.

I hope you get your snow!

Missed the "wizard" post but caught it this morning.  Samson thought of himself as quite a hero that day.  Hope you get that 6 inches of white stuff you've been waiting for, hate to see you disappointed Michael.

Cindy~Yes, I seen your blog post the other day showing the cherry tree blossoms. Weird winter?

Lindsey~They trudge on, but very slowwwwwly. I'm surprised the birds aren't swooping them up.

Marte~It's been awhile since the weather has been chilly around hear, but the snow is falling!

Hey Roger! Ya, Samson thinks he's a German Shepard sometimes, when he's only a 14lb Jack Russell. The snow has arrived and I'll be skiing today. AMEN!

Have an AWESOME day!

In Maryland, we are hoping for an early spring.  We have a rainy morning which is much better than a winter storm.

Have a great day.

Michael, too funny, we got a dump of snow, 17cm, last weekend and now it's gotten cold again, -18 celsius, so we're back into winter after months of no snow and plus celsius temps...

Roy~The snowing is falling like cats and dogs, and I'm loving it!

Thanks Roger!

Holy smokes Peg, that's pretty darn cold! I don't really mind having some snow, it would be different if it was the end of April.

Have an AWESOME day!

We've had crazy weather out here, also.  No winter yet.  CA caterpillars aren't as pretty or as furry as that little guy.
