Dreaming of Simple Life

By

Everybody does. And everybody have their own concept of simple life. Mine is a dream of password-less life. I even remember the time when we did not have it… But that tells you how old I really am…

Maybe I am that uncommon breed that hates passwords. Hates them with gusto. There is really not much that people can steal from me, I think… And these passwords are so freaking annoying…

But they are sort of unavoidable. So, I use one password everywhere I can. I do not care whether it is weak, or strong, I just need it so that I can use a computer. For me, a strong one causes more problems than a weak one…

Dreaming of simple lifeBut sometimes I can’t use my password because a website is more paranoid than others and they demand that not only I should have it 6 letters or digits long, and not only consist of letters and numbers, but then they want that some letters should be capitalized. I hate when I have to create another one, and then store it somewhere, and then always trying to remember what the password is.

The only other thing I hate as much as passwords are user IDs. For the same reason. They are standing between me and my computer. And the older I get, the more fun they have with me.

I already have on my desktop a word file with 4 pages, where I put the ID and password for everything I have… 4 pages…

Are you dreaming of life without a possibility of parole password?

Jon, I agree I hate them. I especially hate the ones that pre-format what you can use as a password.  IE at least one number and one capital letter.

I started keeping a word document to remember various websites the id, the password, and answers to the stupid security questions.  I sometimes have to think hard to remember my paternal grandmothers maiden name!

Fast forward hundreds of sign ins - dog earred pages and notes scrawled in the margins of my cheat sheet.  I've been promising myself to clean up my 5 printed pages but have not gotten around to it.

My real gripe is my MLS makes me change my password every 6 months.  By the time the site remembers my current password I have to change it again.  They won't let me re-use an old password.  Unless I write it down as soon as I do it  I find myself locked out of the MLS>  GRRRRR

I agree! I have mine all printed out, and right now they're a mess because I've added notes all over the place. I REALLY need to take time to update the list. I too try to use the same one everywhere, but since that's impossible, I try to use the same 2. Unfortunately, even that doesn't work everywhere.

About the only thing that annoys me more than passwords is telephone menus. Spending 10 minutes trying to get to a live person is a huge waste of time.

We'd have fewer unemployed people if live humans still answered phones and transferred calls.

Thank you, everyone for the comments. Interestingly, I ran into a post about 25 worst passwords Passwords - We All Need Them, and there were a few comments, and they were along the lines of "yeah, passwords are important", and I thought that I was the only guy there who did not like passwords.

I like this crazy logic that passwords are important. They are as important to the bottom line, as full body scan to the speed of air transportation.

They are evils, that we are forced to endure, not the enhancement of our lives in any shape or form.

Bonnie - nopw I am glad that our MLS is not up to speed on these things. We do not have to do it, I deal with one password and that is it.

I rotate around four passwords John. They do have some apps in an iPhone that can store multiple passwords for your recollection. They are annoying I so agree...

Gabe -thank you for the tip. Isn't it great that first we create a problem, and then we find the solution to the problem that we have created... I am sutprised that with this mentality we have unemployment

It seems that almost every site these days requires a username and password.  I have a password manager program on my desktop and laptop, and I also have a password app for my iPhone.  I'd be completely lost without these.  And for those sites that make you change your password every so often, I manage to work my way around it.  I'll change the password when I'm prompted to, but then I'll go into my account and change it back to what it originally was.

Let's hope that fingerprint or eye scans will replace all of the passwords.

One the problems of keeping a password list on your computer is if the computer is hacked, they will have all of your passwords.  Some other place may provide more security for your passwords,

I hope you are having an outstanding weekend.

Roy, you are absolutely correct. I understand it. I have one basic password, and when I have to deviate, it is the same basic password with capital letters or something else, but they all revolve around the basic one. So in my word file I write

Password: standard +11, or

Password: standard, two first letters capitalized

I now they still can figure it out, but I am not making their life easier
