Just a thought I had while driving to work this morning........
Listening to a morning radio show, I was struck on how easily people will call in to discuss rather intimate details about their life, or make fools of themselves. Why would they do that? Of course, some of it is just being to say "I was on the radio", or tell a tall tale to sound like a big shot. But why are they willing to be made fools of??
Then it hit me....because they believe the voices on the radio are their 'friends'.
Friends can joke around, make fun of each other, and even tell each other bad things. They have established a bond that allows them to do that.
Can't we in the real estate industry use that same concept to make happier customers?
If you see a client as nothing more than a paycheck, it shows...no matter how you try to cover it otherwise. You act too 'fake', you are too sweet, you don't act naturally when you converse with them. You still might 'get the business', but it's not going to win you any referrals....or repeat business.
I always use the 'parent rule' ( would I recommend this plan/rate/idea to my own Mom & Dad? ) when I talk with anyone. I also try to get to know them a little bit.
Then I can treat them like a friend!
