As a real estate professional, I am always looking out for ways to keep informed about what is going on with buyers and sellers. Buyer may be looking for slightly different things in different parts of the country as in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex versus the northeast, but on the whole, they are pretty consitent in their most desired features. According to National Association of Realtors (NAR) Research, preferences for buyers are BIG!
Energy efficiency is getting higher on the list of priorities, but for the most part, buyers still want big closets, oversized garages, and big screen televisions. More than 90 percent of the buyers think that energy efficient features are very or at least somewhat important. Yet we still see new homes getting larger and larger with the median home size up to 1840 square feet in 2007 from 1727 in 2004 according to the NAR survey.
The results of the Most Desired Home Features are:
Feature 2007 2004
Central Air Conditioning 1 1
Oversize Garage 2 5
Walk-in closet in master 3 2
Backyard/play area 4 NA
Cable/satellite TV ready 5 6
High-speed Internet access 6 NA
Separate showers in main bath 7 8
Patio 8 4
Fencing 9 7
