Happy Leap Year Day!

Every 4 years we have an extra day in February, February 29th!  It became known as Leap Year.

A custom was founded that became known as "Sadie Hawkins Day." It was a day for the girls to ask a guy to be their husband.  It became a fun thing on many college campuses with girls chasing the guys.

Sadie Hawkins Day was first mentioned in the November 15, 1937 Li'l Abner daily strip, with the race actually taking place between November 19 and November 30 in the continuity. It would prove to be a popular annual feature in Li'l Abner, and a cultural phenomenon outside the strip.

Are you chasing someone today?

I remember the Sadie Hawkins Dances at Smith College...any girl could ask any guy to dance and the guy was not allowed to say no.  Had no idea it was tied to leap year.

I think that would be a bummer to only have a birthday every 4 years!  Just think about all the presents you would be missing out on?  If your grandfather died after living 80 years, he would have been only 20 years old according to birthdays when he died!
