Easier Said Than Done?

By
Real Estate Agent with EXP Realty, LLC

Have you ever noticed that some things are easier said than done?

Make time to work out.....    runner

Eat right......

Don't worry...

Have faith, trust the Lord.....

You know what, sometimes life is rough.  There isn't enough time in the day.  Things don't go the way we want them to.  We get tired.  We get discouraged.  We get disappointed.  We get mad.   We may just want to give up.  We may simply ask why? Or,  "Why me?"

When life has gotten you down, have you been reminded: "Trust the Lord."  "Don't worry."  "Have faith that everything will work out."  Those reminders, straight from the bible, may momentarily bring comfort.   But, how do rest in peace when the world around you is seemingly falling apart?  Hoping that things will get better only seems to goes so far sometimes.

When everything is going wrong, how do you, Not Worry?  How do you actually place your faith in the Lord?  How do you demonstrate that your trust is in Him

Earlier this summer, in a period of sorrow and despair, I submitted these questions to the Lord.  I needed a practical, tangible answer.  My prayer was answered that same morning.  Today, I had a very trying day.  But, when I looked up to the Lord, I knew He had already given me my answer.  When I applied it, I felt better.  I thought I would share it:

 Phillippians 4:4-8

Rejoice in the Lord always.  I will say it again:  Rejoice

Let your gentleness be evident to all.

The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by pray prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.  And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

Finally brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is purse, whatever is lovely, what ever is admirable--if anything is excellent or praiseworthy--think about such things.

It works.

If I were religious, I think that it would make me a lazy and useless person.  I mean, if I'm going to heaven after death, why bother to apply myself in this life.  I'll might as well just hang around, until the next life.  Since I wasn't born to a wealthy family in this life, surely the next life I'll have everything I need.  Oh, so that's what you mean by Rejoice!  Question: Did you find religion on your own, or were you brainwashed?

Sondra:  You are RIGHT! There is the formula for every problem that life throws at us. Focus on the Father...and the things of earth will grow strangely dim...in the light of HIS GLORY and GRACE!!!

Amen! Be blessed...as you have blessed!

Sondra, Beautiful blog.  Those who do not believe should not be so vocal against believers.  We all have the choice to believe or not believer.   I have chosen to be a believer.  thanks for your testimony.  It is well received by most AR members.  Keep it up.  I personally know you ARE a sweet person.

Very uplifting indeed.  The more we get into his word, and the more we serve others, the more easily our faith will grow!

Faith and worry are opposites!

Great post!

Gregg, Kathleen, Rich, Jody, Hugh, Elizabeth, Dana, Kay, and Armando,

I want to take a moment to thank each and everyone of you for taking the time to respond yesterday.  It will take me a bit to respond to each individually, but I will.  Collectively, your responses made me stop and think, they made me smile, they made me praise the Lord, and they made me feel so blessed/happy to be a part of AR.

Grace and peace to each and everyone of you,

Sondra

Greg,

I am glad you took the time to respond to my post.  I'll admit, you made me stop and think.  I even looked up the word "rejoice" in the dictionary.  You've also given me an idea for another post.  Before I responded, I checked out your profile and blogs.  I see that you are an appraiser and that you appear to be very analytical.  I can appreciate those traits.

I am certain that there are lots of people out there that have the same questions and concerns you do.  When you are on the outside of some tradition or group looking in, there actions and attitdues don't always make sense.  Using a non-religious example:  The Texas A&M students, Aggies, loved their Bonfire.  (12 students ended up getting killed a few years back when it fell during construction, so the school doesn't get to have an on campus bonfire anymore.)  Non-Aggies view bonfire as not only dangerous but a huge waste of trees.  Aggies viewed Bonfire as one of our most beloved traditions.  The outsiders will never understand the insiders view point.  Insiders have a hard time understanding the outsiders.  As an outsider, your comments about Christians make perfect sense to me.  However, as you might have noticed, they offended some people.  That is understandable also.

To answer your question as to whether I was brainwashed.  I can laugh and easily say the answer is no, I was not brainwashed.  I grew up going to a Catholic church.  For years, religion meant following the golden rule.

I've always tried to be positive and hoped that the future has good things in store.  There were many things I could control to make my future better....such as going to college, showing up to work on time, etc. etc.  But, I also got to a point  where I had to acknowledge, there are things I can not control.  The combination of accepting that I am not in control combined with hope of a better tomorrow, put me in the correct frame of mind.   One day back when I was doing fraud audits, I had two different people that did not know each other, at two different time of the day, suggest I read a book called "Experiencing God" by Henry Blackaby.

While reading that book, I came to recognize that God had been working in my life for years, even when I didn't know it.  I came to recognize that He sent His son, Jesus, to reach out to the sinners (the prostitutes, the unethical tax collectors, to the outcasts, etc, etc.) As Jesus himself said, it is not the healthy who need a doctor.   I came to realize that the Bible is full of good information that can be applied to my daily life.

I pray that you will get to a point in your life, where you accept that no matter how hard you work, you are not in control.  That you can get to a point that you can look for positive things to rejoice about, even in the midst of challenges and difficulty.  I pray that you can open up your mind and heart to the possibility that God is real and that He actually loves you.  (I can tell you that He is real, but you won't believe me.  You will have to discover that for yourself.)  If you can get to that point, I think you will find that you will be happier and more content than you've ever been before -even when life itself is difficult.

this is a great post Sondra.  This has been by far my hardest year.  Many HUGE financial struggles and I was worrying myself to death. I was praying, but worrying.  When I stopped and put true faith in the Lord and stopped worrying, it all started to sort itself out.  One day at a time and no quick fix, but each need is taken care of just in time.  I know it is the Lord's work and my job is to tell other's about it.  And I do, just as you have, thank you for the reminder!

Sondra- one of my absolute favorite verses! I believe it, because I have seen this verse in action in my life, and in the lives of my family members. Yes, sometimes the things that we ought to do are "easier said than done" but walking in faith gets easier every day that we do it! God Bless You!
