The MuzzleLoading Deer Season starts today in Michigan! The state is split up into 3 Zones with different seasons for each zone. This year you have the chance to hunt in all 3 if you choose! This is a great time to make Traverse Cityyour base camp for the late Deer Season! The snow is deep and deer tracks are easy to find. You could stake out on snow shoes or skies both trail systems are open or just cut your own track. The rut happened real late and never came on real strong so you have a great chance of seeing a big old buck still chasing does. If you can find a food source you will definitely find deer coming to it during day light hours. The Pere Marquette State Forest is right out the back door of many of TC Motels which are running all sort of specials this time of year. There are also lots of cabins and homes for rent. The Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservency also has lots of property avaiable for hunting deer free of charge. Local farmers always welcome late season hunters on there property, this is a slow time of year for them, and may be the best time to go knock on there door for permission to hunt.
Grand Traverse County will take you back to how Deer Hunting use to be! Big woods, Big Deer, Deep Snow and good people. Come check it out for yourself. If you need a guide give me a call!
