Ski Anthony Lakes, at 7,100 feet, boasts the highest base elevation of Oregon's ski areas. With triple chair lifts accessing 21 downhill runs, skiers can enjoy slopes for beginners and advanced skiers alike, as well as backcountry skiing via snow cat Powder Tours. Visit an art gallery. Union County is home to many nationally recognized artists, several of whom feature their work in either their own studios or local galleries.  Plan your trip around the Third Thursday Art Walk and enjoy an evening stroll through downtown La Grande. Works range from paintings to pottery, jewelry to woodwork, bronze to fibre arts. Stop by the Visitor Center for more information on local galleries.

Annually, many galleries cooperatively hold a studio tour, opening their work areas to visitors. Generally held in the fall, this annual guided tour is a popular trip. Self-guided visitors are welcome year 'round by appointment. Pick up a brochure in the Visitor Center.

Union County's public art collection features work by professional artists, and is housed in twp public facilities: Eastern Oregon University and Oregon Department of Transportation region office. This impressive collection features two- and three-dimensional compositions created in a variety of mediums.
