Today is an exciting day for both children and parents, not only is it Dr. Seuss’ birthday, but it is also opening day of the long-anticipated movie, “The Lorax.” As home builders in Tampa Florida, we greatly enjoy creating custom homes for families with children of all ages.

“A person's a person, no matter how small.” - Horton Hears a Who!

A child’s room is a playground for imagination, laughter and creation. So, why not make it the most amazing and inspired room in the house? Despite their young age, children are bursting with ideas, knowledge and energy; they need a room that not only organizes all their belongings but also matches their unique personality. The room can take on any theme, so have a bed made to resemble a pirate ship or fairytale castle.

“And when they played they really played. And when they worked they really worked.” – The King’s Stilts

We all know that children play hard; so set aside a specific area to encourage playtime. Make the space fun by adding a ceiling swing, chalk-board painted walls or a built-in secret passageway.

“And this mess is so big and so deep and so tall, we cannot pick it up. There is no way at all!” -The Cat in the Hat

When designing a children’s room, organization is key. Create sufficient space for toys, books, and games. Make clean-up time easier by adding shelving and built in storage closets. Take height specifications into account, making sure things are built within the child’s reach.

“Think left and think right and think low and think high. Oh, the thinks you can think up if only you try.”- Oh, the Thinks You Can Think

Get creative. We have seen some pretty interesting ideas when it comes to interactive children’s rooms. Think outside of the bedroom box and try using all four walls plus the floor and ceiling. If you’re stuck, your designer should be able to brainstorm a few fun architectural ideas.

“Some days are yellow. Some are blue. On different days I'm different too.” - My Many Colored Days

Kids love colors, as you have probably figured out after placing a set of crayons or finger-paint within their reach. When it comes to their walls, experiment with color, patterns and murals.

When weighing the option to buy or build, create a custom home so that you can design a unique atmosphere for your children to live and play in: “If you never did, you should. These things are fun, and fun is good.” – One Fish, Two Fish
