High-Wattage Christmas - White Plains, NY 10605

Every Holiday Season I go "Christmas Light Watching" with friends.  Tonight we saw some interesting "light shows" that the kids would really love. To some this is truly over the top - but I have to appreciate the sheer number of man-hours that went into these efforts. My main caveat is - if you are trying to sell your home, this is probably not a good idea.... Here are a couple of photos from last night....enjoy....

Wow, that is a light show.  We have a park here in town that goes over the top and it is sooo neat to see.  We haven't gone yet for our annual visit but it is fantastic.  Thanks for sharing.

I go to the Botanical Gardens every year in Huntsville, AL and it is awesome! You drive through there for $15 a car.

WOW, Just imagine the electric bill at the end of the month. I enjoy driving around looking at the Christmas lights, but I'm not into decorating.

We have several people in this area that go all out as well. Neat to look at but not very eco friendly. I will be happy to see the LED lights get more reasonably priced.

Wowser!  There are very few in my area that go "over the top" anymore.  The electric bills are much too high, but oh my I do so love to see them.   Thanks for sharing yours!

Ruthmarie, there's little that I enjoy more during the pre-holiday madness than a great light show- thanks for the reminder that I'd better get a wreath up (and hit the road to look at lights tonight)!

Ruthmarie--Love the holiday light tours...But agree that if you are trying to sell, subtlety is in order rather than high-wattage excitement.

Kim P.P. -Actually, the parks here are a tad more subtle.  I'm going to try and get some local municipal shots.  But they are harder to get.  The more subtle the light - the more difficult for my little camera.  Sometimes a street lamp got in the way and took up too much light etc. but I'll keep trying.

Kim W. The Bronx Zoo has a great light show.  Not so over-the top, but nice. I went last year and had a great time.  They had Christmas animals as well. We had dinner and enjoyed the walk around the grounds with all the white lights.

Sean - Energy prices are wicked high around here.  I don't even want to THINK about what a show like this must cost.

Michael - I agree, this is not necessarily econ-friendly.

Kris: There are "pockets" of this around here and then nothing.  Very spotty. The area these shots were taken is kind of famous for going over the top with lights.

Joseph - Fun to look at - can't take credit for the work - just the photo.

Laurie - Its early yet, but the show was really getting started - so we hit the road on our way home from dinner last night.  Did a little tour of the area....I don't think people are done putting them up yet.  Some might wait to closer to Christmas - to save money if nothign else!  Kids love this though.  The cars were lined up around these homes with families with children...I guess we were the car with the big kids who never grew up!

Teri - I didn't see a "For Sale" sign in front of any of these homes, but I did go through one last year. We went through during the day, when of course all those lights everywhere were far from pretty.. Not a great idea.... There will be other years!

Sorry I missed you Bill - For tomorrow or AFTER THE STORM OF THE CENTURY......Follow Mamaroneck Ave. heading South past Bryant Ave.

As you are heading south - to the left look at Gedney Park Dr. You can get to the most interesting houses by going to Gedney Esplanade and turning left (at Our Lady of Sorrows)  Turn LEFT again on Gedney Park Dr. - you will not be disappointed.

Get Back on Mamaroneck Ave South again....Go past Ridgeway School Turn LEFT on Meadow way and follow road towards the RIGHT to Sammis - there are a few on Sammis then TURN R on Rose and LEFT on Briga - that's the big show.

The two pics that I had were from Sammis and Briga....

Sorry I missed you tonight - but you can try it next time.....

Thanks Dawn - unless you have an unusually good camera - the trick is to have enough light SURROUNDING the christmas lights, like street lights.  However, you don't want these big lights in the shot...too much glare.  It's hard to get these to work.  The light was just right in this instance.
