Now It's on AR -- Rant, I'm Tired of the Election Already, ARen't YOU .....

Good Lord, Now it's on AR Too.  Is it too much?

I am so tired of the politics already.  Sound bites, photos, kissing babies, visiting senior centers, lunch counters, scenes of disasters.  Yuck. Yuck. Yuck.  We need a mechanism to keep all the electioneering away until July of the election year or in this years case Mid Summer 2008.   We are a year ahead of ourselves and the states keep moving the primaries and caucuses up. Soon we will be starting the TV campaigns for the president, the week after the election is over.  Oh sorry, I guess we are already doing that.

I grew up in a very conservative small town in Eastern Washington, with a farming and logging family.  My folks were very interested in the political process and so there was lots of conversation around the dinner table. After years of work as a State Trooper, I am still conservative.  And after owning a real estate business, I guess I'm a pretty conservative business man too.  I want to see a President who will work to protect our country and our freedoms.  I want to see a President who will protect our economy (the value of our most important assets ... the single family home) and keep it stable so that it remains solid for my grandkids

.US FLAG 1776

Up here in Washington State, we used to be able to vote for folks on either side of the ticket, but the political parties took the voters to court so now we have to register and can only vote for one party. Once again the local guy loses out to the national political machine.

I am tired of this, which is really sad, because I am the guy that loves PoliSci and the political process. And I am not usually the NEGATIVE person.  Must be too many sound bites.   Too much name calling.  If we start the process a year too early, do they have to start getting money two or three years early?  Maybe that is the answer.  And now Oprah has a favorite too...  It's no wonder my sons both would rather get their news from Stewart and Colbert rather than Rather on the networks.

This post started out as a reply to Bill Burress who wrote a great post at  Election Update: Huckabee leads the Republican Polls For Good Reasons. I like Mike Huckabee,  but as I read it and all the comments I just got more tired...

We live in the greatest country in the world, with Freedom and Opportunity like no where else.  Stay informed and make sure an exercise your right to vote. But do we have to start 3 years early???

The problem with such long campaigns is that every move that the government takes is influenced by how it affects their campaign and not what is good for the country.

Things are so bad today, one wonders what would happen if we were attacked again, would the politicians take a poll before defending us and making our enemies accountable.

This post should be included in the "Silent Majority Group".

It will only get worse. We do need to limit the process. I think that until the federal budget is balanced each participant must pay his campaign funds to the government and we will just draw lots. Saves a lot of time effort and money and I am guessing we will get just as good leadership. I can't imagine it getting any worse.

Unfortunately the presidential election is now a marathon....who lasts the longest! And, again unfortunately, the one who lasts the longest is the one with the most money!

I agree after doing our civic duty, the next best thing is to pray that they'll do what they promised!

good post!

I think there should be on national primary day and if you announce more than 6 weeks before it you are automatically disqualified. And this day shouldn't be more 6 weeks before the general election.

Lenn - Yep, I agree, we have a President now, who didn't take a poll, did what he thought was right and has been hassled ever since.  I like a man of action.  At least in times of war. My Grandpa used to say to do what needed to be done and let the chips fall where they may.

Terry - draw lots???  I love that idea... but what would the machines do? Who would pay the "talking heads"?

Gary -  it is not a good marathon, seems like whoever scrapes the most $ together, can slither along the longest and finally win.

Armando - prayer is he answer always, but some of these guys forgot that is the reason we have this great country, so that we could pray.  I know a bunch of governments and schools have forgotten that.

Hugh - That is a great plan.  With today's media and tech, everyone could get their word out in 6 weeks, people could decide, vote and go with life.

Anyway the sun was out in Seattle all day, and it is beautiful.  Plus, I left all the media turned off, so there wasn't any political interference.   Thanks, I'm looking forward to more opinions.

Gary,

I know how you feel. There's so much going on right now because of the elections that it's crazy to think about how things will look next year, when the elections actually take place. I wonder if there will be a fever pitch or a worn out public who just won't have the energy to care any more. Only time will tell and I'm sure this won't be the last rant before we get there.

Andrew,

Probably a "worn out public".  I do enjoy the Daily Show and Colbert, at least they put the tongue in cheek spin on it all.    'Preciate the comment back.

I used to enjoy voting for the best man for the job.

Now, it's usually voting for the lesser of two evils.

And, I agree,  the hoopla starts WAY to early!

Erby,

Thanks for your comments, I agree.  Maybe since it the Christmas season other news will swing into view.  But probably not.  What are they gonna do to keep anyone interested if the new person is chosen by March???   They'll be older news than they are now.   oh, well.

Gary, I agree with the others that these two year election campaigns for President are entirely too long.

There area some here in the rain that have started to post only political posts and I have been avoiding their blog like the plague! I don't seem checking out my favorite bloggers until after the elections if they don't start posting other stuff!

Todd,

Well it hasn't gotten any better in the 3 months since, I started going off about this.  Looks like the Dems will go down to the final bell, so we just keep getting slapped with it.  I do agree that I am going to skip any blogs (even from the folks who have great content) if they are about politics.

Hope things are great for you in WA and OR.

Gary, I agree -- there is a "commercialization" of the political process that the networks and cable news take full advantage of. They are so desperate to broadcast breaking content, they scour the blogs looking for anything different they can relay to the masses... As if we can't study the issues and vote for ourselves.

Take care.
