Originally settled in 1717 as a village within the town of Woodbridge, the town of Bethany was incorporated formally in 1832.  Bethany is proud of its rural charm and its agricultural history, while maintaining a close connection with its more suburban and urban neighbors.  Covering approximately 21.6 m square miles, the town's population is just over 5,500.  The town's low population density enables its residents to enjoy the significant amounts of wooded and open space afforded to them.  The town's website reminds residents that "Rural is Beautiful".
Educational and Recreational Information
With a strong focus on conservation, Bethany's residents can enjoy hundreds of acres of protected land preserved in its natural state.  Recreation lovers delight in the large amo9unts of activities offered by the town's Park and Recreation Department, including everything from sports to acting to cooking.  Bethany's students are members of the Amity Regional School District #5, featuring Bethany Community School at the elementary level, Amity Regional Middle School and Amity Regional High School, which also include students from the neighboring towns of Woodbridge and Orange.
Centrally located in New Haven County, Bethany's residents can travel the area with ease.   Metro-North railroad is a short drive away, also providing convenient access to all that the Metropolitan area has to offer.  The major employment and cultural centers of New Haven, Waterbury and Bridgeport are easily accessed via most nearby major routes, including Routes 15 and 8.
