Who do ya know?

By
Real Estate Agent with Jameson Sotheby's International Realty

In the morning, on the nine-minute ride to my office, I listen to Cathy and Eric on a local radio station, where it's a mix of music and talk.  They run this regular bit called "Who do ya know?" where their listeners have the most famous person they know call in to the show for a brief interview... just to see which degrees of separation their audience is from the biggest celebrity they can find.

The winner wins junk prizes chips, dip and a Mexico trip.

Well, except for the chips, dip and a Mexico trip, I thought it would be fun to try the same thing here in the Rain.  I'm not going to ask you to have them call (write) in, but tell us who is the most celebliscious person you know.  And I mean you have to know them... not know who they are.  There has to be some personal connection, that, number one, you have their phone number, and number two... if you called, they'd know who you are and would probably take your call (if they weren't busy on the set, or in the studio).

So, I'll go first.  I guess the most famous person I know... would be my ex-brother-in-law Henry.  For those of you who remember the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson.  Johnny often talked about his accountants "Dewey Cheatum and Howe", and his attorney "Bombastic Bushkin"... Well, my ex-brother-in-law was that Bombastic Bushkin.

Henry and his wife (my wife's sister Judy) were tight with Johnny and Joanna Carson, and travelled extensively with them. When Johnny was seen on television sitting in the stands at Wimbeldon with his wife Joanna, it was often Henry and Judy who were seen sitting beside them.

So... go ahead, and impress us with your connections.  Who do you know?  It could be Demi Moore's assistant, the guy who lives next to Barack Obama's empty house in Hyde Park, or Charlie Sheen's landscaper.  C'mon, tell us who ya know.

So far I'm in the lead, and you know we can't have that happen, can we?  And remember, in case I wasn't clear enough.  You don't win a thing but bragging rights. (unless, of course Bob or Kerrie wants to jump in and offer 500 points).

Col Gene Brady aka The Purple Fox was an SAR Commander in Vietnam and was highly decorated and respected for his acts of heroism pulling our young Marines out of the jaws of hell. (A little dramatic but I'm sure just a drop in the bucket compared to reality).

Maybe not famous to most but definitely the most famous to some.

He and his wife Ginny were my God Parents, may they both rest in peace.

I've been adding some of my many serendipities to the new SERENDIPITY group and want to add two.   Several years ago, I sold the home of STUART ROTHENBERG, non-partisan political commentor who is often on Meet the Press, Face the Nation, etc.  The serendipity is that his family and my buyer's family both had ties to East Hazard Street, Summit Hill PA.   I'll do it shortly.

Anoher serendipitiy is about how I got the listing of the home of Lila and BARRY BISHOP, who was in the first American group to get to the top of Everest.  I commented on his having even more National Geographics than I had - turned out that this was because he was VP of National Geographic for Exploration.   He died a couple of months after they moved from Bethesda, MD to Montana, but I still have contact with Lila Bishop.

I hope that most of us share an acquaintance with Suzane, #10 - "God, the Creator of the Universe and I talk on a daily basis. He always takes my calls, knows my family intimately and is involved in eveything I do."   And like Cyndi Daves, I am proud to be an acquaintance (by email at least) with Kerrie Greenhalgh, who is deservedly famous among Active Rain folks.

This is cool, #1 would have to be God, #2 Jesus Christ and for now living people I worked for Glen Taylor (owner of Timberwolves and senator from MN), I had several social adventures with the comedy team Williams & Ree (the white man and the indian)  see link below, and when I was young I hung out with the Vikings (Fran Tarkenton, Chuck Foreman, Carl Eller and coach Bud Grant, as well as others - you see I worked as a ball girl for the team in training camp) and nowadays I quilt with the sister of LaVyrle Spencer, and sister of Eleanor Burns (Patricia Knoechel)  www.youtube.com/watch?v=t56ATFK_olI

Alan:  What fun to read the famous and not so famous folks that are "six degrees of separation" from this incredible group of real estate professionals!

So thought I would add to this fun list....I just want to say I am not old, ignore the dates on the folks I know and just remember I was in diapers or a twinkle in my momma's eye (wink, wink):

One of my college roommates was the sister of Dallas Cowboys free Safety Cliff Harris (1971-1979).  Cliff and I had a class together when he was a Senior and I a lowly freshman....and then I became his sister's roommate!

Thurman Thomas (Buffalo Bills & Pro Hall of Famer Running Back 1988-2000) was a terrific track star in Junior High but didn't know how to triple jump so I taught him how so he could compete in a track meet.  I believe he won it as well.

Jody Conradt (Hall of Famer retired University of Texas Women's Basketball Coach)....'nuff said!

Kandace Krueger, Miss USA 2001 was a former athlete of mine at Westwood High School, Austin Texas.  Her mom was my assistant principle and good friend.

Stephen Dell, Michael  Dell's brother, is the surgeon who did Lasik's on my eyes.  Sure hope he would take my call if I needed him.

And finally.....Reba McEntire's husband, Narvel Blackstock is my cousin 9 times removed!!  Had to trace the family back to our great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great grandfather to find the relative in common.

I'm eager to see the other famous folks that appear in the comment column.

Karen Anne - I knew it!

Janis - I guess you didn't take very good care of him if he's not still around anymore.

What a fun idea! Sadly, I don't have anyone famous in my group of friends. I got to meet Michael Clouse once, though, who writes business books and positive-thinking books, so that was a fun day.
