My 2 Cents Worth

Can I Have Your 2 Cents Worth?

                              money

I find that once people learn that I am a Realtor many times I get “Can I ask you a question” My first reaction is always sure why not, maybe I will get some business. The majority of the time it is, what is the market doing, how are prices, we have been thinking of moving, all good questions might even get me excited, possible business, maybe a chance to make money. Sure you can have my 2 cents worth. The reason they are asking is because I am a professional at what I do, I work the market, I take courses, and I take time to stay current with the market, all things that cost more than 2 cents. And what are the closing remarks, yeah we have our house listed; my friend is in Real Estate, I follow Realtor.com I know what is going on, did I just get short changed ?

I realize that this is part of the business and sometimes you win and sometimes you do not, but should we be so free to give away our expertise and time, I am not sure if there is any other profession that just gives away their knowledge like Realtor's, at least it would be nice to get the 2 cents worth.

It does seem to go with the profession. I give out information often for free often without a commitment. That's only once. After that I need a commitment.

Tibor, I hate when people do that.  I do give my information freely.  But if they get an attitude or do the "my house is listed" thing - I ask them if they have had a chat with their agent.

Tibor that seems to go with the territory and consumers today have access to just about everything they need to know from sites like Zillow, Trulia, Realtor.com, but what they don't have is a professional REALTOR to guide and direct them.

Thanks Victor

Pamela good policy to have

Richard we could be worse I agree but we really should keep our level of service of value

Jo then I go continue to say I should not be having this conversation because of ethical reasons

Stephen that is the reason we shouldn't be just giving away our expertise at the drop of a hat

Thanks everyone for sharing your thoughts

Tibor, this reminds me of a humorous story about a graphic designer that gets hit up by fellow employees for his services and gives them a hard time for the same reason. http://www.27bslash6.com/missy.html Check it out if you have a second!

Tibor -- as others have stated --it is an occupational "hazard" and an opportunity to showcase your talents.  Stay positive and be well.
