Now in its thirty-sixth year, the St. Mark's Music Series, at Saint Mark's Episcopal Cathedral, is still bringing great music to Twin Cities audiences.
Organist and Music Director Raymond Johnston has assembled a varied and high-quality lineup of concerts for 2008. The season includes five series concerts and five guest concerts. All performances are at the Cathedral, located at 519 Oak Grove Street, across from Loring Park in Minneapolis.
[Note: I happen to be a personal fan of Raymond Johnston. Raymond is an accomplished organist and conductor, in addition to organizing the Saint Mark's Music Series. It was my privilege to be invited to conduct Poulenc's Suite Francaise at Saint Mark's, at Raymond's invitation, three years ago. And our brass quintet, the Aurora Brass, is in residence at Saint Mark's, providing us with a great venue to perform!]
On February 17, the series will feature the Cathedral Choir and organist James Frazier, performing French choral music for Lent. On March 9, the Oratorio Society of Minnesota will perform the Durufle Requiem and Benjamin Britten's Rejoice in the Lamb. March 16 brings a performance by the Aurora Brass Quintet, presenting "New Music For Brass". The series' April 11th concert will highlight "Music for Organ", with concert organist David Goodenough. And on May 10, there will be an "Organ & Brass Spectacular", featuring St. Mark's Organist and Director Raymond Johnston.
The season finale on May 17, 2008 will be a performance of Mendelsohn's Elijah, with the Cathedral Choir, Choral Society and Orchestra.
