The One Unique Feature of Springing Ahead

By
Industry Observer

Tonight, most of us will need to move our clocks forward an hour, and that means we will lose an hour of our lives, sort of.  While Daylight Saving Time will give us an extra hour to tour homes after work and to do whatever else requires that it be done before sunset, it also takes away an hour of bed rest for most of us.  It's considered by most to be a reasonable trade off.

Time is a commodity that is irreplaceable, almost.  The almost part exists in the one hour that we will lose tonight and actually get back in a half year.  It is the only time that will eventually be replaced in like kind.

When we have children, we have them for eighteen years, more or less.  After that, they are gone forever, not as individuals who we will love forever, but as children.  Their childhood has expired, along with our opportunity to do whatever we had planned for our children.  Did we spend enough time with them?  Maybe, but probably never quite enough.  Did we give them the best home in the best neighborhood with the best schools possible?  Maybe.

Whatever your wants and needs, wishes and goals, the most precious obstacle is time.  Although we have to make adequate plans and proper decisions, delaying a good decision degrades the one component that cannot be replaced.  Other than the hour we'll get back in the fall, time passes and never returns.

If you're pondering a lifestyle upgrade that will affect you and your family, delay will only diminish its benefits.  Go for it.

If anything it might be good that we lose an hour. Some of us spend so much time working that we don't get to enjoy the little things and seeing that we are actually Losing time (for now anyway) might be a reminder to not pakc every minute of your schedule all the time.

Love the new photo!  As for DST, well, this just means my body rhythm will have me waking up earlier.  I try desperately to avoid waking up to the alarm clock.  I like the sunshine streaming in do the trick.

The older I get the more I understand this to a point of being frightening.

Love this, so true and such a good reminder. I remember my parents saying how fast this would all go and of course I didn't believe them!

More opinions than you want to hear about.

Bud & Beth, yes, it is one less hour we can misuse.  It's probably better to misuse time than completely waste it though.

Chris Ann, the office assistant insisted on some exposure.  Tried to ease into the hour loss by splitting the difference and starting the engine a half hour early this morning.

Bill, one of life's mysteries is that we seem to get more cautious as we age.  Kids drive like they have nothing to lose, and ninety year olds seem to be cautious almost to a fault.  Seems backward, doesn't it?

Good Morning Mike, The older I get the faster time seems to fly by. Even though I don't wear a watch or even have an alarm clock, time does seem to be a very precious commodity.

Have an AWESOME weekend!

Mary, time is the factor most overlooked when folks contemplate change.   If we take too long deciding whether we should provide a nicer environment for our kids, we won't need it.

Michael, what's a watch?:)  I think they're  now called cell phones.  Good news is that, even if you waste the next several thousand hours, you'll get a second chance to redo one of them.
