Turning An Eyesore Into An Asset:  Home Staging in Connecticut

No matter how large one's home is, everyone prizes storage.  Storage areas and cabinets are usually high on home buyers' "must-haves" lists.  However, there's storage, and then there's storage.  Not all storage areas are equal.  Not all are attractive selling features.

Here's how one handy Seller turned a storage eyesore into an asset, based on the recommendation of Nestings Home Staging.

Before

Before:  Located in a first-floor den/guest room, this built-in cabinet offers plenty of storage.  However, the damaged, wood-toned shutter doors detracted from the overall aesthetics of the pristine, updated house.  This is an eyesore, not an asset.

After:  We recommended removing the shutters, painting out the interior, and turning this cabinet into a desk.  More Buyers are looking for appropriate home office space.  Since the counter was the perfect height, this was an excellent solution to eliminate an eyesore and create an asset.

Hi Julie--that is beyond brilliant.  You turned that eyesore into something that is adorable and highly desired by sellers.  Now, why don't all sellers believe they need stagers?

Great minds think alike, Sharon - LOL!

Thanks, Rebecca & Janice!

I just don't know Janet.  Perhaps they think "Staging" costs too much!

Debbie:  It really expanded the functionality of the room too.

Wow, Dorie - thanks.  I'll have to go to Kathy's post!

Ginny - just make sure the counter height is 30".

Julie - Oh wow, what a difference!  Were there drawers below that had to be removed?  Love the way you dressed the "new" desk with baskets etc.  Looks efficient and dreamy all at the same time!

Wow, great job. Who'd a thunk that such a great idea was hiding in that hideous 1st photo. Much more storage & better overall use.

Wow! What a difference that makes to the room! It looks so clean, bright and inviting. My first thought was painting the cabinets white, but turning it into a desk and book case is so much better.

What a tremendous improvement with a low cost improvement.  This is a good example of a relatively low cost improvement.

Thanks, Sandy - It was screaming for a makeover.

Sally - No drawers, just shelves.  And the Sellers did the "dressing" themselves!

Richard:  It really is a functional work area.

Who'd a thunk, Lun?

Karen & Michelle - so many buyers are looking for a home office, this solves the riddle.

Very low cost, Sharon!

Thanks, Karen!

Julia -- Great vision on your part! You are right that homeowners like to have a space for their computers -- other than the kitchen counter!  Nicely done for an even nicer cost!
