Speech Contest

"Reach Within To Embrace Humanity"

Participants:

Gavin Munro- Jr. VPHS- Honorable Mention

Alex Delgado- Sr. VPHS- 3rd Place $50

Tara Sanders- Sr. VPHS- 2nd Place- $75

Sally Baker- Sr. VPHS -1st Place - $100

All the participants gave excellent speeches.

Sally Baker will move on to represent the club at the District Finals.

Announcements:

District Assembly this Saturday 8 AM to Noon at the Argyros Center, Chapman University.

All Chairman and new Rotarians are encouraged to attend this very informative session.

Coffee and refreshments will be served.

Wayne Silzel announced a golf outing to benefit the Covenant Presbyterian Church School will

be held on Monday, May 7th. Golf, Dinner and a raffle are included. Tee Off at 12 noon

Alta Vista Golf Club. For more information contact Wayne.

 

Happy Bucks:

Tom Grundy attended the Boy Scout Troop 850 fundraiser at Tutto Fresco last evening and

had a great time. He invited the owner to attend one of our future meetings.

Bob Kreisberg is looking for Stem Cell Donors and is encouraging club members to join the

"Be A Match Program" anyone age 18-60 can volunteer. Volunteers have a 1/540 chance

of being called to give a potentially live saving bone marrow donation. Screening consists

of a mouth swab. The website to sign up is: http://join.marrow.org/friendofbob. I will forward more information from Bob.

Bob Meyer announced that a lady is tithing her income to Bob's "Operation A Bit of Home"

Wayne Silzel had an outstanding week.

His daughter, a professor of Economics and History at Cal State Fullerton, published a

book and his son was promoted to full professor at Biola University. He has a phD

in Chemistry.

Lesslie Giacobbi commented on the speech contest, and making sure the speeches are

long enough to qualify.

Teri Brooks- had a great time as "Principal for the Day" at Villa Park High. She sang high

praise for the job that Ed Howard is doing as principal and his dedicated staff.

Nagy Ibrahim was proud to announce his granddaughter was baptized last Saturday.

District Governor Greg Owen commented on the Speech Contest and how great a job the

speakers did. He also welcomed Rick Barnett and Glenn Weingarth into the Rotary Family.

He also spoke about Polio Plus and how in the last year we have eliminated Polio in

another country, leaving only 3 countries where Polio still exists.

Tom Grundy gave special thanks to Pete Moriarty, our membership chair, for the outstanding

job he has done in the last year.

Bryan Nash thanked our speakers today's event.
