We starting monitoring the foreclosure numbers a couple of weeks ago to see if Dothan is experiencing any significant increase. The reason? Because the media is bombarding us on a daily basis with news of rising foreclosure numbers across the U.S.
These numbers are strictly from foreclosures listed in the legal section of the local paper, so these are homes that are in the final stages of foreclosure, soon to be sold on the courthouse steps. The numbers do not necessarily reflect new foreclosures, as all notices have to run for three consecutive weeks in the newspaper.
- Week of 11–19 – 21 foreclosures
- Week of 11–26 – 16 foreclosures
- Week of 12–3 – 16 foreclosures
Once I have a couple of months of data, I will put this information on a chart or graph. I have not tracked the actual number of foreclosure notices in the past, but I do look at them almost every day. I can say with some certainty that the numbers listed above do not reflect a substantial increase in the overall number of foreclosures in the Dothan real estate market. That is not to say that we won’t see an increase, just that we haven’t yet.
