Motivational Monday - Want a more fulfilling life? Narrow your focus!

KeysMotivational Monday - Narrow your focus!

We tend to do so many things at the same time, with or without success.  It seems that when it comes to our job, we sometimes have a hard time saying no.

We try this, and that, and some of this and a little of that, and think that we need to have five pots on the fire at the same to put us in a position to ensure that we will have success...  OR capture that one lead.

So we blog, AND use facebook, and twitter, and call expireds, and go to lunch, and coffee, and door knock and host seminars, and tour...  We try to do everything, and sometimes it leads to limited success.

BUT,

To have a more fulfilling life and career, try narrowing your focus.  Try and do that one thing, and only that one thing.  You will see better results at that then trying to do 10 at the same time.

So to have a larger, more fulfilling life... Narrow what it is you are focusing on.

So LEARN how to do one thing before you try something new.  Learn how to do it in a way that will knock it out of the park!  And you wil notice a higher level of success when you focus on one thing as opposed to several at the same time.

This idea can also be used when spending time with your family.

:)

Chris,
How does this apply to the multi-tasker, or does it?

I made a commitment to this about five years ago.  My family is first, and for reasons I won't go into, that has become my main consideration (my wife is working on an advanced degree).  So, I basically had to narrow my focus to home, career and child.

Thank you I agree we do need to focus and narrow the direction.

You just have to figure out what that one thing is. One certainly will encounter frustration if one tries to be great at too many things.

Dee - Well, I guess it can work for a multi-tasker as that person is usually doing 10 things at the same time to get junk done.  But when it comes to lead gen, focus on just one thing till you become awesome at it.

What, no multi-tasking? I shouldn't be writing this while I sit here on the phone - on hold.

Seriously, you're right. Focus on one method and get it down pat. Then if you want, add another. But going off willy-nilly in every direction just makes you "Jack of all trades and master of none."

I agree, Chris. I tend to try out the "new" things only because it always seems like everyone is doing it and I sure don't want to miss out. ;)  But I'm learning to do as you suggest and just stay focused on one (or two) things. Certainly seems to generate better results.

It is true Chris, that many of us use the shotgun approach to our business.  Our thoughts and business practices are not focused as much as we intend them to be.  Thank you for trying my attention to this.

Good advice here.  Yes, you are right. We do try to focus on everything which is not fulfilling and very often frustrating!
