Daily Devotional: Receive Forgiveness, Not Condemnation

Prayer Starter: God, thank You for showing me that condemnation is not from You. Today, I receive Your forgiveness. You have cleansed me of sin so that I can live in right standing with You.

1 John 1:9 But if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from everything we've done wrong.

We sin every day and need to ask for forgiveness. God will cleanse us every time, but we must remember to request the forgiveness to keep us "in  right standing with Him." I am not saying you are only forgiven if you ask everyday...you are forgiven forever and have eternal salvation once you ask Jesus into your heart. But you are still supposed to ask for forgiveness of your sins every day (and sometimes several times a day).

The author states "The devil knows that condemnation and shame keep us from approaching God in prayer so we can receive forgiveness and enjoy intimate fellowship with Him."God does not 'get angry' with you, he always understands and forgives us. He does not leave you, you leave him when you try to hide your shame or believe what you have done is too terrible for God to forgive.

Than, I like to believe that as Paul said, I'm dead to sin. And I remember the directive of Jesus to several people after healing them, go and sin no more and once stating that more bad things would come upon them if they didn't. I know I still slip up, but the thought that maybe I can actually go sinless at some time drives me to be more like Jesus. You are right about the condemnation being a wedge. I know a few people reluctant to give their heart to Jesus because they don't think they are worthy to be in His presence.
