Real Estate Domain Names

The key is making your domain name memorable.  When it’s memorable people are less likely to forget it or mistype it.  The more specific your branding is, the more memorable it will be.  It’s easier to remember something like libertyvillagecondos.com than youronlinetorontohomesource.com.

Having words describing your business focus spelled out in your domain name also helps yourwebsite’s ranking in search engines.   Search engines give bonus ranking points to domains when the words a person searches for are found within the domain.  For instance, if someone uses the search “<yourcityname> condos” in Google then the search engine will give higher ranking to any domains that have any of the words “<yourcityname>” or “condos” or any other words describing homes.

Some of you will find the most desirable dotcom real estate for your area already taken long ago.  So here are some of the ways you can get creative with picking a domain name so you don’t have to compromise on what’s available:

Get Out Your Thesaurus – there are a lot of words you could use to describe your real estate business in your domain in a combination no one else is using for their domain.  For instance, the words homes, properties, and “real estate” can all be used to describe the same thing.  If you specialize in condos and lofts you could use any of these combinations in your domain: condo, condos, condominium, condominiums, loft, lofts.  Perhaps you work in a particular part of the city?  You could use “<yourcity> east”, “<yourcity> west” or “<yourcity> uptown”.  Is there a major street intersection in your farm area you’d like being associated with?  Try variations of “Major Street” or “Street#1 & Street#2” (intersection) with the various words above.

Use Hyphens – the domain <yourcityname>realestate.com may have been taken, but the same domain with hyphens between each word in the domain may not have been taken.  So try looking for <your-city-name>-real-estate.com.  Not only will there be lots more domains available using hyphens, but having these hyphens makes it easier to separate the words and read your domain in your promotional material.
