It depends with whom you speak, but the truth is, Colorado Springs really does have a very diverse population. Yet, having diversity among community does not always translate to the embodiment of connection.
What I’ve seen sprouting lately in Colorado Springs is the true connection between the arts and the local community.
Cherise and I had a wonderful evening last weekend, as we visited The Modbo Gallery, featuring local artists, Joe Bonomo, Michael DeVore and Cecilia Thorell.
We were pleasantly surprised with the level of talent expressed by each of these gifted artists. On display, we got to see the transformation taking place between Joe Bonomo and the canvas. We have known Joe for a few years and have had the pleasure to witness his genre, specializing in the “poetic.” On display, we were very surprised to see his representational art expressed in the steam punk form.
And for the first time, we met, Michael DeVore, who specializes in portraits, landscapes, still lifes, and his wife, Cecilia Thorell, who also paints portraits and still lifes. I was impressed with their love for art and their puritanical approach to developing their skill level, which are very high to begin with.
I personally want to thank these three artists who are truly helping to connect our community through the beautiful language of art.
