CT Food Bank -- Spring Walks Against Hunger
It’s hard to believe the numbers. Almost 49 million Americans, which includes 16 million children, are hungry or without adequate food.
In CT 1 in 5 children go to bed and to school hungry. CT has approximately 400,000 at risk of being hungry. 1 in 7 households can't afford the food they need. It’s just unbelievable. What is even scarier is that with rising gas prices, food prices have been going up as well creating a dire situation in the already depleted food banks.
To help ramp up the distribution of food to local soup kitchens, shelters, food pantries and adult and children day care centers, the Connecticut Food Bank will be holding the 2012 Walk Against Hunger on three different Sundays this spring in Bridgeport, New Haven and Waterbury CT.
The three 2.5 – 3 miles Walks Against Hunger will take place at 1 p.m. as follows:
Sunday, April 29 Greater Bridgeport Walk Against Hunger, Seaside Park, Bridgeport
Sunday, May 6 Greater New Haven Walk, College Woods Pavilion, East Rock Park, New Haven
Sunday, May 20 Greater Waterbury Walk Against Hunger at Library Park, Waterbury
Organize a team, get support from family members, friends, and colleagues and pre-register online at the new Walk Against Hunger website. Use the ‘Walker Tools’ to help attain your fundraiser goals.
Every dollar raised will help the Connecticut Food Bank provide three meals to someone in need.
So, get your walking shoes ready, organize your team, and come out for an easy 2.5 – 3 mile walk for a great cause. Why not make a difference in the lives of fellow residents of CT who are struggling to put food on the table for their families.
