This weekend in Door County--the World-Famous Sister Bay Bowl.

While I'm Irish and I'm sure to be enjoying some of the weekend's local festivities, it's a good time to mention the Sister Bay Bowl--because by the time May comes, there won't be a ten minute wait on the weekends.  There will be a two hour wait.  Also, I owe a friend dinner, and I am sure this will be the restaurant of choice this weekend because the food is fantastic.  Friday, locally caught perch delivered by Maricque's.  Saturday, excellent prime rib.

The Bowl spent a good part of the last year being written up by national periodicals and getting a lot of great press, because it's the last of a dying breed.  It's an old-fashioned bowling alley with a supper club attached, a great wait staff, and some of the friendliest bartenders around.  Even thought it's early spring in Door County, we don't have water activities yet (they'll be early this year), it's too early to be gardening.....and many of our seasonal businesses wait for May to open.  As such, people are shopping and going to the parks, and generally keeping busy, but what do you do in the evenings?  How about renting some shoes and enjoying a game of bowling with your family?

EDDIE--ONE OF THE WORLD'S FRIENDLIEST BARTENDERS

The Bowl doesn't have automatic scoring.  This always baffles me when it's my turn to score, because I have trouble remembering how to add up a "spare".  Winter schedule Monday is men's bowling, Tuesday is women's league, and Wednesday is mixed couples (that's a fun night).  Weekends are open, and it's nice to have a place where the whole family can enjoy an activity if the weather is still too unpredictable for to be outdoors.

My friend Mary captured the Bowl perfectly in her blog, as a newcomer to Door County.   Mary is hilarious, her blog is well worth reading (she's raising money for orthopedic surgery in Haiti), but she just nailed how much fun the Bowl can be for a newbie.

The Bowl also serves some of the best lunches available.  And it's undergoing a facelift right now!  The exterior is being revamped, so this summer it will sporting it's new look, while maintaining it's old traditions (it's one of the oldest buildings in Sister Bay in regards to Door County properties).  The new face-lift is FANTASTIC.
