How Boutique Hotels Can Inspire Interior Design for Your Home!
There is no secret that sophisticated travelers enjoy luxurious travel, and many choose to bring the interior design ideas home so they can enjoy the same comforts every day. I particularly enjoy the bathrooms that I've encountered in the various hotels, as many incorporate features that we don't pamper ourselves with at home. Here are some of my favorite designs for your dreaming pleasure.
Spa baths provide relaxation from your hectic lifestyle, and can be incorporated into your home with careful planning. Plumbing fixtures add a sculptural element and especially tubs can be the focal point of your space.

This is my favorite bath tub form. The high curved shape of the back just invites you to relax and lean back. The tub filler includes a hand spray for easy rinsing or washing your hair.
Vessel sinks are another great way to add character or unusual flair to your space. More and more of my clients are going this route when renovating their bathrooms. From artistically painted ceramic forms to sleek metal, there are many styles to choose from.
Wow! Nothing is more green than using a hollowed out stone for your sink. The texture this sink brings to a bathroom is incredible, and I like the juxtaposition of the sleek faucet next to the rough stone.
Your shower can also be an important design feature, and it can include body sprays, multiple shower heads, steam and a bench for relaxation. If you select a stone top for the seat, it is possible to add heat so the stone is not cold to the touch. It may not be possible to add heat in all installations, so please consult with your builder if you're interested in this feature.

This shower was designed by Eric Cohler for the Kohler Company. Beyond functionality, it certainly makes a design statement!

Lighting is crucial in the bathroom for make-up application and shaving, and I recommend a combination of fixtures to provide the best task lighting. Sconces on either side of the mirror with recessed halogens above provide gentle light that minimizes shadows and enhance your features. For a little glamour, consider adding an interesting chandelier like the one shown below! Dimmers in the bathroom and the ability for the lights to be switched separately for different uses are also great features to include.

This miniature chandelier (16" in diameter) packs alot of design into a small package.
If you're ready for the ultimate experience, consider an Internet TV installed behind the mirror, towel warmers, and a small refrigerator for water or champagne.
Having a TV that doesn't take up space is great, especially when it is conveniently located for viewing.
Built-in jewelry storage, heated floors, and lighted display cabinets are also considerations if you want to completely customize your space. My favorite, of course, is the heated floor!
