David, dont you mean that if you are already living in HI that your rate will stay the same? Once you are already getting a BAH, it doesn't do down if the rate goes down...it can only go up. It is only the new personnel that will get the lower rate. For example here in CO, the rate went up for most...We will getting about $50 more a month. Last year the rate decreased so when we moved here we didnt get as much as the people who were already here. Your rate wont decrease unless you loose your dependents or a few other scenarios.  Just wanted to clarify that! :)

Kristen-Thanks for pointing that out!  My brain was working faster than my hands and I left out the word "not".  That little word can make one heck of a difference!  That is what I was saying, as long as you are already at your duty station, whether it is Hawaii or wherever else and the rate goes down, you will be grandfathered and you will keep the higher rate.  Glad to hear that it went up in the Springs!  We spent 9 years on 3 tours of duty at Ft. Carson.  Sometimes I miss the snow and mountains but I am enjoying the ocean and beaches in its place.  Aloha!

I figured it was a typo, but wanted to make sure your HI readers werent as confused as I was! Right now, beaches and the ocean sound wonderful to me! Its a warm 30 degrees now. This is our second tour here and we are hoping to make it our last duty station. We love Colorado!

No problem.  30 degrees isnt that cold in Colorado Springs.  I remember having BBQ's when it was 20 and 30 degrees!  We always enjoyed the outdoor life and all the things to do in Colorado.  We were just about ready to retire there and we were offered the assignment to Hawaii so we sold the house, packed up the kids and moved over to the islands.  Had it not been for that assignment, we would still be in the Springs but we have found true happiness in Hawaii.

Michael,  You will get the rate for the rank you get promoted to.  If for some strange reason the rate is LOWER then you will keep the HIGHER rate.  Bottom line is that you WILL NOT have your BAH lowered if you are already assigned here.

Email or call me personally if you have any other questions.
