Spring in San Francisco!

March rains are hustling Spring quickly into the City! Before long there will be more homes on market - this always happens. Supply is so low right now, this would be a great time to sell. But back to why I think Spring is on its way.

One plant in my backyard is just starting to bloom. It's called Geranium Maderense. It originated in Portugal, and does great in San Francisco's Mediterranean climate. Not your usual geranium. I planted it in the ground as a young plant in mid 2011. Now it is just starting to bloom. It is about 3 feet tall and 4 feet across. Before long the entire top will be exploding with a purple blaze of quarter size flowers.More photos to come soon.

How interesting.

The fronds are like those of the tree ferns, but the flowers are like the New Zealand impatiens.

John, My son said that San Francisco was slammed with a lot of rain earlier this week.  Spring has certainly sprung in your back yard.  Like Roger, looking forward to seeing it in full bloom!

Pacita, I always thought geraniums were such bland plants. My mother always grew the typical ones. But this one is completely different. I can hardly wait to see the explosion of color that is to come.

Tony, green happens when it rains here. Even the hills in the bay area are green now. It was such a dry winter everything had turned brown.

Roger, I have other pics of previous blooms on other plants - but we'll just have to wait for this one. Otherwise it would be cheating.

It's still raining Kathleen. It's been a bit of a chore getting around and driving on the freeways, but we do need it.
