Just a few days ago, President Gerald Ford died at his longtime Rancho Mirage home. He was 93. Today, the nation watched the 2nd day of tributes. Highway 74 was lined with Palm Springs area residents. Many of the residents had signs to help communicate their wishes to the family and to say goodbye to the 38th President of the United States.
The Palm Springs area became home to President Ford after he left the White House. President Ford and Betty Ford help populate our beautiful valley and really put us on the map. Betty Ford established her renowned dependency center in Rancho Mirage. The Betty Ford Center is still a prominent center for any one with drug or alcohol dependency issues.
President Ford and Mrs. Ford have allowed all valley residents to feel we have a little something extra with their presence. Most of the Coachella Valley residents have one time or another, proudly mentioned President and Mrs. Ford live in the area. Their devotion to the area has been unwavering. It doesn't matter if they are promoting this fantastic area or just mentioning how great the golf is. The Ford's have been a true blessing to the community of Rancho Mirage and the surrounding communities of Palm Springs.
As a neighborhood, we mourn our former President and neighbor. We send our best wishes to the entire Ford family. If you would like to express your wishes to the family, please go to the Betty Ford Center website to sign a tribute book for the family.
