About The ArtsCan Circle
The ArtsCan Circle was inspired by the work of Mike Stevens, a multi-talented harmonica player who traveled to isolated communities in Labrador, at his own expense, to share his love of music. On these visits, Mike developed a personal relationship with his young listeners, provided them with harmonicas and donated instruments, and began a tradition of informal, interactive workshops.
Today teams of musicians travel to remote Canadian Indigenous communities to link creative artists with Indigenous youth at risk. They conduct hands-on workshops in playing instruments, songwriting, singing, drama and visual arts to build self-esteem amongst Indigenous youth and encourage positive outlets for self-expression through the arts
