Reaching Out to our New Members!!!
Although many of the advanced bloggers may still consider me a Newbie, since I have only been in the Rain just a little over a year now. But, I began reaching out to New Members early last year. Whenever I would learn something new, I was eager to pass it on. My good Friend, Kristine Ginsberg reminds us in her recent Featured post that we all need to remember how we started, how others were helpful to us, and how we should be encouraging and reaching out to New Members.
I know that I still love to comment on those orphan posts, and offer tips and advice to Newbies. Thanks, Kristine for your encouragement and support for all those Newbies out there. Newbies, remember to join Groups, and check out Introducing Newbies in Active Rain, as a place to find tips and support to help you with your journey in the Rain.
If You See A Newbie Floundering Help Them Out!
We were all there at some point, writing our first blogs, trying to attach photos, find the right groups to join and people to connect with. I recently came across a new blogger and noticed they hadn’t posted to any groups and didn’t have any comments. I knew they were new to AR.
First I commented on several of their blogs and subscribed in a show of support because I remember when no one commented on my blog and I felt like a fish out of water! (I did the opposite in the beginning and only posted to groups, but not on my own blog, LOL – not the brightest bulb!
For anyone who has some time at Active Rain, Ambassador or not, we can all help out a newbie and we should! I will always remember the people who first supported me when no one else commented on my posts (in no particular order):Maureen Bray, Roger Mucci Laura Baker, Sally Weatherley and Kathy Nielson, all of whom I am still great friends with today!
Had I not gotten that little bit of kindness and support, I think I would have thrown in the towel. In fact, I left for a month and the wonderful and kind hearted Laura Baker emailed me, asking if I was okay and that she missed me! Missed me – I didn’t know anyone knew I existed???!!!!
It’s easy to forget what it was like during our first few months at Active Rain. It’s painful at best, everything is new and there is a learning curve.
In the begining there's so much to learn, we're so afraid of what to write, praying to get just one comment!
If each of us reached out to one Newbie we'd encourage hundreds of members who are on still on the fence about continuing to blog and show them the community we are - a special group of people who really support and care about each other!
These are some post that can help you out and reduce the learing curve on building success in the Rain!
