I am taking the leap!!

By
Real Estate Agent with S Squared Group - Keller Williams Realty BRE#01817654

Well, this is my first blog ever.  I thought I should start with my new career as a Realtor in the California Real Estate Market.  I know, Iknow, everyone keeps telling me the market is very tough, especially in CA where the prices are still high, BUT what better time to learn the business?  All those tricky short sales, learning how to market myself and finding the great deals for my buyers as well as honing the skills to sell in a buyer's market.

Any suggestions from all of you experienced agents (especially in CA) are DEFINITELY welcome.  I am networking heavily to get my name out there, working at getting both active buyers (may be easier to start with in this market) and the all important listings.  Luckily, I have lived in So. CA all my life and have been in this community for almost 10 years.

So, as I stated before, I am ready to hit the ground running with all the tools I can have in my bag of tricks. More of my adventures in Real Estate to come....

Good luck... in real estate, blogging, etc.   I started  real estate 5 years ago and I have learned so much in the past 5 years.  Good, Bad, interesting, but never boring.  have fun with it... It seems you are doing better than most new agents in the Chicago area.  Not many of them have heard of Active Rain,  not even blogging for that matter.  Keep in touch!  I also work for Coldwell Banker and it has been an excellent place to learn!

Welcome Barbara! Good luck and don't let anyone get you bummed about the 'terrible maketplace'. I am a home inspector. Don't be ridiculous, call Meticulous (Home Inspection)! Learn all you can learn from the top producers in your office, and if you make people laugh when you first meet them, they will remember you. This works well for me. A tip I can offer you is when you recommend a home inspector, make sure they are a member of a national organization such as the one I belong to - NAHI - the National Association of Home Inspectors. The other prominent one is ASHI. Also, some join just so they can use the logo on their literature, but most join to get the required continuing education, so ask! Happy holidays! - Ray

Hi fellow Ventura County Agent, Welcome to Active Rain. You will love this community. There is an ocean of resource here and all you have to do is just ask.

My suggestion is, since the market is slow don't spend any of your money on "traditional advertising". Active Rain is a good way to get your name out. Just right about Simi Valley, therefore when someone is looking up online for some thing in Simi they come across your name. Try to right as often as you can about the monthly market activities, city activities, and city events. Another suggestion I have is try to concentrate on people you already know. Don't pick out a farm. Write a monthly newsletter (choose topics that are not real estate related) and send it EVERY MONTH to people you know.

Thanks all for your input.

Judy, Thanks for the encouragement, I picked Coldwell Banker for the training as well

Ray, I will keep your suggestions in mind.  Especially the association memberships and continuing education.  I am a big believer in Home Inspections, our inspector found all kinds of things that needed to be fixed when we puchased our home.

Mana, I agree, I think the internet is the future of RE and I will take your advice about the newsletter.  I was part of the transition group from Amgen and still have quite a few contacts there.  I think that will be a good area to farm as well as my own community.
