Everyone seems to be talking about Google Juice and how to help SEO (Search Engine Optimization) but man, that sure sounds scary. Why not just hire the nearest high school kid to take care of this for you? Never fear! These tips should help you until that kid gets home from school to help:
1) What's in a Name?
Naming a file is SO IMPORTANT! Do you know how SMART those Google robots are that crawl our sites? Get in the habit of naming your images more than just IMG2334.jpg because that means NOTHING to a bot. How about "01_Living_Room_123_Main_Street_Liberty_MO.jpg" Yeah. It's a mouthfull, but your clients will never see it and those bots will DIG IT!
(SIDEBAR: In case you wonder, the "01" numbering is so I can remember which order I want my shots to appear on the MLS and which are most important to me.)
And for that mess at the end, just copy it and PASTE when you get to the end of that room name. Easy as pie.
2) Say What You Mean
Google Bots are smart, but they are pretty stupid too. Spell it out for them a few times in conversation so they better know the important part of your blog/article that you are writing. If it sees "Kansas City" a few times on the body of the website home page or "First Time Buyer" in the content of your article, then it will help your Juice.
(***DISCLAIMER** Don't SPAM your clients or try to bury a bunch of keywords on your website over and over without a purpose. This will get you black listed and is a risk NOT worth taking)
Just mention the subdivision or city a few times where you may otherwise say "here" or "it" just to add a little Juice.
3) Link It Up
Are you linking to other articles that support your listing/town/subdivision? If they don't exist, are you creating them? Links are GREAT for Juice and the more linking the better your article or website will do. (Again, see the SPAM DISCLAIMER above... use these powers for GOOD!)
4) Do It. And Do It. And Do It. And......
Is there a hockey season in between your blog posts? Are the cob webs thick on your website's home page? Get that Juice flowing by blocking off an hour once or twice week to give them some love. Current stuff ranks better than older stuff (typically) unless that olders stuff is still getting good traffic.
5) Help Out Your Images
Do you ever fill in that "ALT" tag with images? Back in the good ol' days it was used to speed up browsing on those 28.8Kb dial up modems, so the user could turn images OFF and the text would show up so the user knew what image they are missing out seeing.
Today, ALT tags are just another way to add some Juice to your site and re-affirm what that image is. Pretend the photo didn't show up... what would you want this to say?
Check your MLS... they may let you put some extra words in there too.
There ya go! Check out this recent experiement about a local subdivision I'm trying to capture some more business from here in Liberty: Parkview Meadows SEO Site Sample
Good luck and drink that Juice every day for a healthy website!
