It doesn't really matter what distance you want to run or walk on this island. When you participate in a race every setting is spectacular. This one is no diffierent.
The 3rd annual Maui Valley to the Sea Half Marathon and 5K/10K races are sponsored by the Hawaii Elite Track Team. The half-marathon starts in beautiful Iao Valley in Wailuku at the end of Route 32, crosses the valley between Haleakala and the West Maui Mountains passing endless sugar cane fields, and ends at the Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary in Kihei, with the ocean at your feet.
For those who are running the 5K or the 10K, the start and finish line will be at the finish line of the half-marathon in the National Marine Sanctuary. The 5K race is run along the beach, and the 10K is run half on the road and the other half on the beach.
All races start promptly at 7 a.m.
Once your cross the finish line there will be live Hawaiian entertainment, food, and of course, awards for each age division.
Proceeds from this race benefit Hawaii Elite Track team, a non-profit organization which was established in 1992. The Elite track team works with athletes between the ages of 3 and 18 and uses these funds for clinics, camps, National meets, training, equipment and uniforms for these young athletes.
